I guarantee if you got stuck in a gym with only a barbell, plates, dumbbells, and a power rack, you would come out more jacked after 1 year of training opposed to being stuck in a gym with countless amounts of machines and equipment...

exercises using free weights are a lot more disrupting (they are simply more difficult) and provide a lot more overload in the long run. i do believe there is a time and a place for using machines and cables, perhaps for workouts where you are wanting to manage cns fatigue or just want to chase a quick pump (there are more reasons too)...

but let’s be real here. people avoid the basic exercises because they aren’t as sexy, are a lot more difficult, and can quickly humble mfs.

now the key to avoiding plateaus with the select few of exercises done with barbells and dumbbells is to cycle through different variations of them during each new mesocycle...

you did flat barbell bench for one month? next month use flat barbell bench with a wide grip. or use slow negatives... you smell what i’m cooking?

is getting really lean worth it?

it took me 3 weeks of me restricting my calories to about 2200 per day and 3-4 cardio sessions per week to lose 6 lbs...and i really like food... a lot.

my carbs have been lower, my strength / energy has slightly decreased, and my pumps haven’t been as knarly...

all for the very minimal difference you see here (although i do believe i lost more f*t in my back)...

yes, getting lean and shredded looks amazing, but it is just more time not spent building muscle...

besides, @aubriehirsch has told me many times she likes 195 lb+ aust better than 180 lb aust...😂

i don’t want to discourage anyone who is currently dieting, but just some low-cal food for thought🤔

nonetheless, i’m finishing out these last 4 weeks of a 4 day lifting split with a very flexible deficit (some cheat days here and there) before i switch gears, reverse diet and start my journey to the biggest & heaviest i’ve been in years...

It kills me to see so many people with ideas and aspirations who will never execute. i believe this has nothing to do with the actual talent of the individual and their business plan but more so to do with their own perception of “success”...

social media has made really put entrepreneurship on a pedestal and made it the “thing” to do. problem is, social media often only shows us the highly-followed successful entrepreneurs whos brands are thriving and are enabling them to live their dream lives because of their financial freedom of doing what they love...

i use to be too envious of these people. for the longest time i engraved into my mind that there’s no point to develop my own entrepreneurial ideas and launch them publicly because there were already those who have a won at this game...

i now believe that’s a lame a*s excuse. “success” isn’t defined by your social media status. it wasn’t 10 years ago and it still isn’t today. social media is only a tool we can use. it’s opened up more opportunities for those wanting to create awareness of their own endeavors..

1️⃣ this tip will boost your results quicker than anything else. the sooner you start monitoring your caloric / protein intake and match it towards your goal, the sooner you will achieve the physique you want. this will make all your time and efforts in the gym pay off. might wanna eat in a caloric surplus if you are really trying to grow too!

2️⃣ assuming you are a natural lifter, a bro split will not give you enough frequency to optimize your muscle building potential. train each muscle 2 (some even 3-4) time per week opposed to only once.

3️⃣ don’t waste your time in the gym doing “junk volume”. allocate the majority of your volume towards perfecting and progressing with compound exercises. use these compounds in a 7-12 rep range with a full range of motion to maximize muscle growth. narrow down your exercise list and simplify your training.

4️⃣ this might be the hardest adjustment to make. as soon as i swallowed my pride and left my ego at the door, i’ve avoided injuries and have seen more muscle growth than ever. you have been told this before... just trust it, dammit.

5️⃣ injuries mean time out of the gym. time out of the gym means no muscle growth. always treat your warm ups, mobility, and stretching just as important as your workouts. this will prevent injuries, maximize performance, and ensure longevity.

6️⃣ track everything. weigh yourself in the morning. take pictures of your physique. keep a log of your workouts (exercises, weight used, reps, rpe, etc.). possibly even take measurements of muscle groups. this will give you data to analyze overtime and help give you an understanding of what has been working. not to mention visually seeing your progress overtime is extremely motivating!
