Some time ago, a friend offered a challenge to photograph your earliest childhood memory. this photograph is an interpretation of my earliest memory in which my mother gave me my first umbrella. here my son receives his first umbrella.
this photograph shows me how we sometimes struggle to look back and place memories in their right place in time. we're caught in a battle of looking forward vs. looking backward. we place other generations behind us as we look for new adventures ahead of us. all the while, being invisibly guided by the moments and memories that helped shape us.
i would have been between two and three years old for my memory. here, my son is three and a half. my umbrella was mickey mouse. his umbrella, a lady bug. i decided to use slide film for this concept. looking at the slide itself invokes so many other memories of capturing childhood in #35mm film. how about you? how would you show your earliest childhood memory?
