After i completely covered the new studio in line drawings of houses i felt inspired to create one of my own, only this time it was of my own house, and has a lot more detail than the wallpaper! this is something i never do. i can’t actually remember the last time i created something for myself! for someone who doesn’t really draw buildings, i thoroughly enjoyed drawing this. now all i have to do is find somewhere to put the framed print and probably wait 5 years before i actually get the drill out to put it up...
when was the last time you made something for yourself?
The wallpaper in my new print studio is now up thanks to the help of my mum yesterday, but now i need your help because i can’t decide if i’ve completely made something up! i absolutely swear on the life of leggy (the skinny spider in my downstairs loo) that i saw an advert for ikea which featured the kallax unit on legs or something that looked like the kallax at the very least. i stopped to look but got hurried on and typically when i went back to look for said advert in the bus stop it had gone! do you know what i’m chatting about? i can’t find it anywhere and i’m really hoping that i haven’t made it up! failing that, where can i get legs for the regular kallax units? i plan on making a printing desk with extra storage 👌🏻 ta muchly 😘 i hope you all had an ace weekend!
The bottle is nearly empty and i don’t know how i’m supposed to refill it. the other day i was chatting to @mummasparks about how i’d left my confidence behind at university and how i don’t feel like i’m much ‘fun’ anymore. i really noticed it when i visited @craftfestival last weekend. i wanted to talk to the makers, i really did. my head was telling me to talk to all the ones i recognise from insta because we have something in common, so it should be easier but my mouth was like hell no, and zipped itself shut.
and then if people talk to me, i have no idea what to say! and then if i do, i worry about saying something s****d or coming across as unapproachable.
i think with being so ‘out there’ online and willing to talk to everyone, people assume that i’m really confident in real life. but in reality i’m a massive introvert. i guess what i want to know is, if you’re the same, how do you deal with it? how do you get better at it? how can i fill that bottle of confidence back up? ✨
Ignore the card completely even though it is new and look at the background. this is what happens when you’re innocently taking pictures for a new card and you some how end up looking like you have a giant giraffe neck! how is that even possible? i wish i could say that i photoshopped it this long but i really didn’t. does my neck really look this abnormally long in real life? 😳 nothing like a bit of dodgy photography to make you paranoid about your appearance 😂 thank goodness i took a million pictures of the same thing so i had variety! why are product photos soooo hard to do?
This is going to sound really weird but over the past week or two, i’ve been trying to ‘re-train’ my hands to fold my dispatch notes in the opposite direction to what i’ve been doing over the last 6 years. and you know what? it’s actually a lot harder to get into a new rhythm than i thought! why am i doing this? well, today i am going to run out of my standard c6 cellos for my single cards and after this, they will no longer be sent in plastic! you guys really surprised me with the poll results a few months back so i’m going for it! i won’t be fully cello free though, i still need to protect and label my scratch cards so they’ll be going in the eye wateringly expensive eco bags instead. and i still have a tonne of a4 ones left to use up. but it’s all small steps in the right direction to being less wasteful! i’ve even wrote a blog post about it, the first in 6 months, ha! link in bio. what are you doing to reduce waste? 😊 p.s thanks for my tshirt @doraexplored!
I can’t believe how long it’s been since we last did a follow friday! it’s shocking! let's use today to shout out about some of our favourite small businesses, makers or just plain amazing accounts and find some amazing new people to follow. let's send them some love, put a smile on their faces and let them know that they're doing a great job, because let’s face it, being a maker can be tough at times! if you had to choose a small business or two to tell the world about, who would it be? why? who should everyone be following? who inspires you? who do you admire? tell the world about them here. or, use this post to discover some great new talent or businesses to support. let's make this follow friday all about designers, makers and small businesses! whose in? i’m going to be spamming my stories with people i’m loving right now, so keep a look out!
Yeah it’s a mess i know, but can you see what’s hidden in the mess? 😉 i’ve been chained to my printer this week so i thought it was a good time to have a big brain dump about all the ideas i’ve been having for #meetthemakerweek. i know that if i didn’t, then by the time the main planning comes around, they would have floated off never to be discovered again and i would have been really annoyed at myself for letting that happen. i’m quite excited about this years maker week, like #marchmeetthemaker it will be in its third year! how has it been 3 years already? things will be a bit different this year but i’m not going to tell you just yet because knowing me, i’d have changed my mind by then! if you’ve not heard of #meetthemakerweek, it’s basically a super condensed version of #marchmeetthemaker but over 6 days instead of a month! go on, whose up for it? even if it is 5 months away! 🙋🏻♀️
Calling all mumma’s to be! don’t forget your amazing daddy to be! it’s father’s day in 2 weeks but don’t worry i’ve got your back and i’ve got you sorted! you’re not a mum to be? don’t worry! i’ve got you sorted too! a few magic taps and a card will appear on your doormat! you can thank me later 😉
now, if someone can just sort me out? i’ve got no idea what to send my dad this year! what do you get the man who doesn’t want anything and has no interests but antiques? probably just a pulped piece of flat tree with something nice written inside of it? i don’t know!
I’d thought we’d go for a bit of realness today! this week my studio has been an absolute tip, you could barely get through the door because of all the cardboard. then my desk was a whole new mess with two printers and more card and empty mugs everywhere. it wasn’t the pretty, tidy space i’ve shown you before. it stressed me out so much i had no choice but to tidy it. i use the word tidy loosely because essentially all i did was flat pack the cardboard but not before stabbing myself with my stanley knife for the third time this week 🤦🏻♀️ and definitely not before i hid in a box and played on instagram whilst pretending nothing was going on... hands up, who else is working from a pig sty this week? 🙋🏻♀️
Bank holiday? nahhhhh! it was all sunshine and orders for me! thank you so much for all of your pin orders since friday, you made me so happy and made me wonder why i worried about it so much!
my grandad gave us his old sun umbrella, it’s really, really old but i love it! it now means that we can work outside, even with our laptops! i’m hoping that once i’ve finished with my printer that i’ll be back out in my outside office again, using the sun to fight off this awful cold i’ve managed to attract. anyone else work yesterday too? 🙋🏻♀️
*sings* take a sip of my secret potion...! err that’s enough of that, you don’t need to hear me sing. but if you are in need of a bit of extra courage for doing all the scary things or pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, i have a potion for that! just like if you’re struggling with a bit of creative block, (aren’t we all?) well i’ve got a remedy for that too! obviously you can’t actually drink them, as they’re my brand new shiny pins but you get the idea! speaking of pins, the tools of mass creation pin is now restocked! eeeek! also happy gdpr day! what a friday eh? which of these two new beauties is your fave? 💛
Yes i am fully aware that we haven’t had snow for at least two months and i have to wait until at least october before i can properly wear my new @chilly_noodle hat and that it’s actually warm enough for me to scare away the sun with my lily white legs! but yesterday i popped down to exeter to the @wearenoths partner meet up and i’ve started thinking about about that cold season where you give gifts and wear awful jumpers. *cough, bah humbug*! anyway, these friends of mine are from last years gift wrap! i’m debating whether to do a new pattern for this year? but what creature this time? so far i’ve got polar bears, arctic foxes, and penguins 🐻🦊🐧 how do you even feel about gift wrap? an important part of the gift or a waste of money?
