Photo by @bankpyt || during the winter in berlin, most of the days are quite cloudy, which makes it difficult to take photos. nevertheless, we went to the berlin victory column. it’s the highest tower that i have ever visited, and it is the best place to take in the skyline of berlin. if you ever get the chance to visit, you have to see this view!

we were really lucky, because when we arrived, the sun started to shine through the clouds as the sky cleared!

#lr_vibrant photo by @pikachuichooseu || sitting in the middle of tisvildeleje street, the main street of the small danish town tisvilde, is the tisvildeleje inn. much like the city, the inn and its owners offer warm hospitality, beautiful scenery, great art and culture and wonderful food. in the middle ages, pilgrims travelled there to drink from the holy helene spring, which was built to provide water for the king – christian iv of denmark.

today, creative copenhageners enjoy tisvildelejes as sanctuary, 90 minutes away from everyday life. but in the winter, everything there is quiet. most of the shops in this small village are closed, and the snow gets to fall peacefully.

#lr_vibrant photo by @eliana_strano || this photography is called “momenti indimenticabili” which means unforgettable moments.

libreria acqua alta is a little bookstore in venice, italy. it’s one of the unusual and original bookstores in the world. right on the water, it sometimes floods, so all the books are piled up on high shelves, in gondolas, and even in bath tubs! i love this place because it’s very sentimental and emotional. it’s my little corner that i can always come back to. here, i can visit the past through the marvelous stories told in these old tomes!

#lr_vibrant photo by @h_cato || photography has changed the way i travel. to me, photography is a tool i use to observe and feel connected by documenting a moment, but that’s only part of it. sometimes photography reminds me to put down a camera and give my undivided attention to a traditional welcome song and dance from hosts. often, i must strike a balance between the two.

i’ve seen photography inspire a sense of wonder and ignite our imaginations. i’ve seen it spark consciousness, advocacy, and action. i hope that as i continue to travel across varying landscapes of the world and meet the diverse groups of people that make up earth, i can inspire them to experience new things and to go outside of their comfort zone, even if it’s just to engage with the people on the other side of their street. that’s what this journey has been for me: one of continual relearning and stretching.

this photograph brings us to the end of my take, but that doesn’t mean it’s over! now it’s your turn to share your images. show us those beautiful, vivid moments that your camera allows you to capture, and tag #lr_vibrant for a chance to be featured on the lightroom instagram page this month!

Photo by @h_cato || have you ever experienced something that you instantly felt a connection with? for me, that was the hippos in kenya. i could watch these creatures for hours as they play in mud, hide under lily pads, or transform into nimble land grazers at night.

hunted for their meat and ivory teeth, it’s devastating to know that hippo populations have declined by 95% in the democratic republic of the congo alone. they are now recognized as vulnerable to extinction. even if you never see them in the wild, i hope that my images inspire you to care about the planet, wildlife, and the need for conservation.

Photo by @h_cato || an issue that seems more prevalent now more than ever is photographers’ presence in developing nations. there’s nearly always an unspoken power dynamic at play, usually in favor of the photographer. but what measures are we taking to balance that and shift the role of power? when a camera is pointed in someone’s face, especially children, are you asking yourself whether their parents or guardians would be proud of this image? or, is it merely reaffirming negative stereotypes?

as the visual storytellers, we have the power to paint broader pictures, and it’s important that we do. in my work, i aim to photograph people with dignity, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

this image is a part of a series of work i did with a charity founded and run by people from mumbai, which serves communities in their city. their aim is to empower disadvantaged communities through learning. where children do not have access to schooling, yellow school buses have been converted into mobile classrooms and come to them. more than math and literacy, at the heart of what they do is restoring dignity.

Photo by @h_cato || i’m often asked “how do you meet people when you’re traveling?” sometimes, i’m not even sure. my camera has afforded me the ability to travel the world. beyond that, it has given me an excuse to start conversations.

i was taking a picture of a friend in a narrow-stepped street like many in chefchaouen, when this talkative little girl approached us. soon she was calling out to her brother, mother, and neighbors, encouraging them to meet us too. not long after, traditional moroccan garments, beaded headpieces, and woven hats were wrapped around each of us in colorful layers. we were offered a home-cooked meal and were introduced to their favorite cat.

a camera is more than a picture-taking device: there are so many ways it can be used to start conversation. when are you starting yours?

Photo by @h_cato || my first time experiencing the sunrise in the maasai mara was something truly surreal; i don’t think i’ll ever forget it. we left our eco camp at dawn, eyes not yet adjusted to the dark. it was much colder than i expected it to be, so i had to huddle under blankets during our trek to this spot.

it’s experiences like these that really hammer home the need for conservation. being in spaces like this forces me to ask myself, “how does my presence here affect the balance of life?”

i’m glad we stayed at an eco camp that uses minimal water, runs on solar power with no fences or fixed structures, and employs local maasai men, who know the land like the deepset creases in their palms. they invite you in to respect, observe, and admire, but to leave no trace behind. our maasai guide brought us to this spot and told us, in hushed tones, to wait. then, sure enough, the sun came to greet us.

Photo by @lindseysphotographs || i saw this view while driving up the road and i knew i had to stop and pull over. the feeling i had when i saw my surroundings was so familiar that i had to capture the scene ahead of me.

the way the fog rested over the trees reminded me of times in life when i couldn’t see exactly where i was going -- literally and metaphorically. in those times, i didn’t know what was ahead, but those were the times that challenged me and changed me for the better.

it may be foggy at first, but as you go through life, things become clear, and you figure out where you are meant to go. that’s what i was trying to capture with this photo.

#lr_horizons photo by @greatwallmylove || i have been a tour guide for more than 12 years, showing people the wonders of the great wall of china. this photo was taken about 2 weeks ago on the mutianyu great wall when i was taking a family on a sunset tour. it started out as a cloudy day, so we didn’t have high hopes for the view -- but by the time the sun began to set, the clouds parted and most of the tourists left, leaving us alone to experience the silent, beautiful sight.

the two little girls, abigail and hannah, started running and playing around the wall freely. when i saw them waking through the arch door together hand in hand, it brought me back to my own childhood memories.

over the past 12+ years, there have been countless moments like this. i really wish that i could capture them all. of course, photographing every single one would be impossible, but when i do capture a moment or scene i really like, it always brings me joy.

#lr_horizons photo by @moners || when driving around the scottish highlands, along the north coast 500, i passed through the beautiful fishing towns of aultbea and laide.

suddenly, the weather went crazy. it started to rain, then hail, while strong winds whipped at the windshield. after a few minutes, the storm calmed, just as quickly as it began. the air cleared to reveal this double rainbow in front of me. i immediately stopped the car and took this shot. i was happy i got this shot, because like the storm, the rainbows were gone in an instant.
