This is a mantra i keep in mind anytime i am able to use my own voice to advocate for those whose voices are often silenced or ignored. it is so important in advocacy work to help bolster other's voices, rather than talking over them, and it is crucial to use our privilege to support the oppressed, rather than take up more space. ⠀
💜⠀
advocates need to use their words intentionally, and they need to know when they need to be quiet to allow space for others. it is important to center the oppressed in conversations around social (in)justice, while simultaneously not exploiting them and expecting them to educate their oppressors.⠀
💜⠀
advocates with social privilege must allow themselves to be impacted by those with less social privilege. advocates need to do their own work and realize that they benefit from the very system that keeps others down. advocates need to fight the good fight and challenge their peers to do better. i speak up because i never want someone to feel alone or further marginalized in their quest for equality. to those surviving in systems that mistreat, harm, and marginalize you, i see you, and i am sorry for the pain you endure. i hope to do better, every day.⠀
