Henlo friends, happy tuesday 👋🏽 first i want to say thank you for all your kind messages and second i want to answer the questions you’ve been asking in case you ever find yourself in the same situation.
some background: bentley always steals socks to chew on/rip but never actually swallows and eats them. last night he very excitedly grabbed a sock to greet dad with and rolled over asking for belly rubs. i said let’s make sure he doesn’t have anything in his mouth, but he had already swallowed the sock.
i immediately called a vet, who said i could bring him in to induce vomiting or could do it myself. since we decided to do it at home, the vet asked for his weight so we could give him the appropriate amount of hydrogen peroxide. the vet said that if he didn’t throw up within 20 minutes we could try that same dose again and if he didn’t throw up after that, he needed to come in.
once we gave bentley his dose, we walked him outside as instructed. we were very lucky in that he threw the entire sock up within minutes.
some takeaways: no matter what your dog swallowed, call your vet first. act as quickly as you can; the longer you wait the less chance there is that your dog can throw up the substance/object. we need to clean our house better..
anyway, thanks for reading and i hope this helps if you’re ever in this situation!
our little patient is definitely back to his normal self, and we appreciate everyone who reached out to say feel better or told us about their same experiences. we love this community! .
