Found a commercial gym in scottsdale while i was there for work this week. i snuck in my chalk and got some sbd training in. they played cardi b. i got stared at. it was fine.
top set of cluster triples with 315lbs instead of 140kgs bc i was in freedomville and they didn’t have 1.5lb plates 😬 #sumoischeating#archingischeating#gymbros#wherethemkiloplates#iwentrogue
Yesterday was a whirlwind but i felt so loved on my birthday! thank so much to everyone who sent me notes wishing me a great day 🥰🙏🏼
here’s my deadlifts from last night:
150kgs for a cluster triple
most i’ve pulled for cluster 3’s and found a much better groove than i have been lately on deads.
@xtinakatarina, @u_me_and_a_dream and @aywfil cheering me on and throughout every rep and every set...peep @animal.jones’ reaction on the last video 🧐🤷🏻♂️🤣🤣 #notdeadyet#arewethereyet#roadtothearnold#birthdayfun#thisis36 😳
Couple things i’ve been noticing with my squats recently that are making some of my sets move a lot better:
1. set up
i’ve been getting a bit tighter under the bar before unracking it—basically creating more tension from the top of my shoulders down to my feet. pushing myself into the bar and pulling the bar down slightly. makes the bar feel so much lighter unracking it.
2. core pressure
starting to feel much more core engagement when i take my first breath before starting my descent. you hear people say “use the belt” or “push into the belt” but sometimes it doesn’t always translate. for me, i’ve been working on bracing my core and squeezing my glutes as i take that breath (like i’m bracing my abdomen for someone to punch me haha), focusing on keeping that same level of abdominal pressure through the entire movement has really helped a ton the past few weeks. squats are moving faster and my bar path has been way more consistent 🙌🏼
so i’m basically ready for @xtinakatarina it @animal.jones to ninja kick me in the stomach at any point 🤷🏼♀️ #imspicy#theyrefeisty#alwaysready
I love pressure.
all of it.
even when i feel scared.
i’m learning to become less afraid everyday, not caving to acute stress as much. pausing each day to recognize the gratitude i have for where i am. not just in terms of growing as a powerlifter but more so personally and professionally.
feeling a little scared, some fatigue, and a whole lot excited for this first half of 2019
