The gift of pain and surrender
i’ve been pondering chronic pain and awareness. speaking as someone who has a little guardian angel called pain, i wanted to offer some support to those of you who go about your day with this ally. a wise woman once said “your pain keeps you from becoming someone you’re not”
as i reflected on this statement, i realized she was absolutely right. my physical pain ally has helped me tremendously in cutting things out of my life that just don’t work. anytime i am in the midst of pain i think about this grouping of words and i am immediately thrown into gratitude.
the following are just some tidbits that i’ve learned for myself that actually apply to everyone. just take out the word pain and replace it with whatever you’re going through. *there are real physical boundaries that need to be honored. everyone is different and has requirements to keep their vessels in tip-top shape. if yours is pain, utilize it in a way to offer yourself more love, more compassion, more slowness/presence in your day. become the mother of your body. *you are actually miraculous. you have deep reserves of strength. you are not weak. you are not fragile. you get up, you do the life things and quite often you do them while experiencing pain (physically or emotionally) *you are not a bad person if you have not overcome your pain (heartache, jealousy, anger or whatever it is) you are whole and complete and worthy of love.
so whatever season you are in on this vast sliding scale called life, honour it, trust in its intelligence and do things that make you happy, regardless of the pain. if it’s going to stick around, might as well take it on a fun journey
When gathering wisdom i often need a moment or two to fully integrate what i've learned so that it can blossom and spread into other areas of my life. usually this means more nature, friends and solitude. less, way less social media.
this summer has brought me many blessings and many teachings to integrate. so much depth
i've had some pretty incredible wildlife encounters that have left me speechless and absolutely awestruck. instead of looking in a book (which is awesome and fun) i started to research the animal, the surroundings, the food, where it sleeps and how it mates. this allows me to better read into what wants to be known
i get to work with woman i love every day. i wanted to fill my time learning and growing with organic gardening, sustainable clothing, herbs and botanicals. these wise woman practice patience, love and community. thank you for allowing me in your realm. @raedunphyaromatics , @fieldstudyshop , @sensesofthesoul . if you haven't had a chance to check out these absolutely lovely humans, i suggest dropping in
i was also blessed to travel to san diego to meet some incredibly strong, loving, vibrant woman for the first weekend of a year long apprenticeship where we get to dive deeply into the fabric of reality, practice self love and acceptance and awkwardness all day long. the wise woman tradition, non-violent communication, mantra, all the herbal healing and and and... i'm still unpacking that incredible first weekend. my heart is actually bursting for these woman @activeculturefamily **
i've taken on a practice of daily herbal infusions, dream journaling, kundalini. as well as finding and sitting with my green ally (herbal plant friend for life) i've been hitting up the bird sanctuary every evening sitting with horsetail and am greeted every night with animal and bird medicine. yesterday i watched a b****r drag some branches to his dam and patiently waddle back and forth, so much care put into his home. two great horned owls coo-ing at each other and a m****r of crows dive bombing them
for those of you who don't know me, this is who i am and what i do. thank you for following along this wild ride.
