Yellow-rumped warbler / paruline à croupion jaune (setophaga coronata)
i saw several warblers who were very interested in the shore of the lake. they probably found a source of food there. they were not shy, which allowed me to take some pictures without too much difficulty. the colors of autumn warblers are subtle but in my opinion very pretty.
I often get asked by workshop participants about how i get close to the birds and wildlife i photograph. certainly, effective stalking skills need to be employed to get close to your target but it also helps to break up your shape and blend into your surroundings. to do this i use camouflage on myself and my gear. i've been using @lenscoat products for a few years now and highly recommend them. they have camo covers, wraps and bags for almost everything in my kit, including the flash and flash extender cases shown at the end of the video. best of all, lenscoat protects my gear from the elements; i wouldn't be without it.
while in the flinders ranges recently, my mate @lerako and i threw together this quick vid to show you some of the great @lenscoat gear. if you have any questions about the gear i use, feel free to message me. (disclaimer: i have no relationship with #lenscoat and am not benefitting financially from this post ... i just love their stuff👍) you can check them out at lenscoat.com
The common kingfisher (alcedo atthis) also known as the eurasian kingfisher, and river kingfisher, is a small kingfisher with seven subspecies recognized within its wide distribution across eurasia and north africa. it is resident in much of its range, but migrates from areas where rivers freeze in winter.
this sparrow-sized bird has the typical short-tailed, large-headed kingfisher profile; it has blue upperparts, orange underparts and a long bill. it feeds mainly on fish, caught by diving, and has special visual adaptations to enable it to see prey under water. the glossy white eggs are laid in a nest at the end of a burrow in a riverbank.
