Did a lot of low-impact mini activities today trying to help out her leg. the highlight was our fishing trip. n had to be tied to the boat bc she was so eager to go after the fish 😂!!! i also want to say how beyond grateful i am to #amcny for all of the help and support. it brings me to tears. this is a trip i’ve dreamed of taking with n for years but delayed and delayed in part because i was so worried about the situation with her leg injury. there is no possible way i could have dreamed of this trip without having the support and confidence in nellie’s amazing doctors back home. i regret that we need them so much but they are truly behind us night and day.
Perfect way to end my day in louisville at veterinary cancer society 💙 catching up with my resident-mates. 🍵 yes i’m drinking tea as my throat is sore and i’m doing the 7 am breakfast talk tomorrow 🌞☕️
Overdid it slightly with nellie’s leg on weds (mental note : sked extra #amcny rehab sessions stat) so took most of today easy and off beach which was easy to do since the winds kicked up. big quail hunting excursion tomorrow!! nb nell has clearly mastered the hotel pool thing. not so much the ability to resist terrorizing #thecloister#seaisland tea room bird; perhaps she’s just preparing for her hunt. goodnight sleep tonight!
Alistair was examined today at #pennvet by a surgery resident and an oncologist. good news from the surgeon, alistair’s abdominal incision was declared fully healed! no more cones and no more awkward jammies. (huzzah, alistair.) and we can finally bathe him. (huzzah, us.) the oncologist expressed concern over alistair’s low red blood cell count and high glucose. we’re going to try his prednisolone every other day, then go back to the vet in two weeks; november 1. and alistair won’t be alone because hank is scheduled for a physical that day, too. (we haven’t told hank yet 🤫.) the boys are gradually reclaiming their routine. no more #felinenonrecognitionaggression. and we’re all back in the bedroom👌🏽. #hankandalistair#vetvisit#amcny#westvillagevets#cat#catlover#petagram#catstagramcat#blackandwhitecat#tabby#nomoreconeofshame
I know i look super happy in this photo (and life certainly ain't bad when you're on the couch with mom), but if you swipe ⬅️ you'll see (and hear) that it's actually cushing's rearing its ugly head... heavy panting is just one symptom of this disease that affects my cortisol levels. we did an acth stim test at @amcny yesterday to finally confirm what we've all been pretty sure of for a while: i do, indeed, have cushing's. enough of my symptoms are coming up that we're going to officially start treatment, and hopefully i'll be a lot more comfortable soon!
Your outpouring of love for oscar has been unbelievable. please keep it coming. he’s doing ok but he still has a long way to go. last night he developed an arrhythmia, but he responded well to medication. this morning they detected a minor heart murmur that wasn’t there before surgery. they’ll be rechecking and keeping an eye on it. his temperature has been low so they’ve got him in a “bear hug,” a blanket of warm air balloons. we spent about 2.5 hours with him in a private visiting room. the last hour or so he was on my lap and i could feel him respond to the body warmth and become more responsive. he was in shock when he arrived at the hospital yesterday (i knew he was in bad shape but hadn’t heard “shock” until today) and he had a major procedure removing his spleen and the mass attached to it so it’s not surprising that he’s weak and tired the day after. he was also agitated when he woke up this am and needed a light sedative in addition to his pain meds. we’ll be back tomorrow for another visit and we’ll stay until they kick us out. please keep all your love, light and prayers coming for oscar. deepest thanks from christian, kelly and me. ❤️❤️❤️
Rip bodach. he was trapped in a sunnyside backyard and last wednesday he went for a routine spay/neuter. due to him bleeding from his incision he was int-abated again to stitch his incision (not usually done in male cats) and bloody mucus came up from his lungs. we were advice to follow up with a private vet asap to do a blood panel to rule out "rat poison". he was alert the first hours, but by the time we headed to @amcny his breathing was a bit labor. it is hard for any vet to know any underline diseases if the cat is in a trap and already anesthetize when it gets to the operating table. @amcny vets immediately rule out rat poison and a physical examination found a no.4 heart murmur. an x-ray confirmed congestive hard failure; his heart was so big it touched other organs. rip sweet prince an angel tried her best to help you and you left surrounded by love. thank you alice. #amcny#congestiveheartfailurecats#heartmurmurkitty#tnr#spayneutercommunitycats
All your love is needed. this morning oscar cried and when i picked him up he was weak and wobbly. when i expressed his bladder he had trouble standing. we thought he might have had a stroke, and christian took him to the er at @amcny. on intake the doctor thought he had a ruptured mass in his abdomen, and once they stabilized him (his blood pressure and temperature were low and his heart rate was high) an abdominal ultrasound confirmed it. there was a mass on his spleen that ruptured and bled into his abdomen. the doctor explained that a mass like this could go unnoticed for a long time until suddenly it ruptured and became life-threatening. a chest x-ray found no cancer. when he was fully stabilized they performed surgery and removed the still-bleeding mass. he came through surgery well and will be at the hospital for 2 or 3 nights. we won’t know if the mass was cancerous or not until the pathology report is back early next week. if it isn’t, he’ll be able to recover and go back to normal. if it is, he’ll likely only have months to live as the chance of metastasis is high. please send oscar everything you’ve got. whatever you feel or you believe in, he needs a huge dose of it right now. please send him everything you can.
