goddamn this album is a f*****g insane trip. machine girl's newest album, "the ugly art" is easily his most ambitious album yet. and not to mention it is another terrifying album that came out just before halloween time. unfortunately i got to this after halloween had passed, but the mood is definitely still there.
a lot of the songs on this album are extremely hyper and all over the place experimental, electronic, and uhhh i don't know death grips inspired. it's hard to define what i'm listening to, very similar to death grips. and i have seen a ton of dg comparisons with this album, and although machine girl definitely wears his influences on his shoulders, i don't see a problem with it. the production is really all over the place but what i would use to shortly describe it is hyper-active and kind of like adhd as a song. while listening to this it's impossible to not want to shake your head vigorously to the very sinister beats and screaming throughout it.
the style of this album is definitely an acquired taste. if you're a fan of death grips or clipping., or any "experimental" artist like that this album is definitely for you. once again this album sustains a very hyper energy, and it's super entertaining and it works. for me it was quite addicting to listen to. i wasn't really sure what i was hearing sonically but i loved it. there are brief interludes sprinkled out this album to let you breath, which was enjoyable. but the highlights of this album definitely are in the first half. it's some of the most haunting and insane music i've heard this year. unfortunately near the end the quality kind of takes a dip. and for some reason the album ends with a ten minute song after giving you constant short 2-3 minute songs. i don't have a problem with long songs but when you have an album full of short ones and try to throw in a massive one in there it feels really out of place.
