Day 11 of #splitsforspring is splits pose // hanumanasana or monkey pose! again, whatever you like to call it 😛
lately i’m really noticing my yoga practice following me off the mat. in different ways, some a lot more subtle than others. working with the yamas and niyamas in my everyday life. from working with the first yamas; ahimsa (non violence) by showing myself more kindness and compassion and recognising when i’m being too h*****n myself. to working with the second yamas; satya, (truthfulness) which goes beyond not being a liar.. but working on not giving anyone an impression of myself that is anything but true. being my real and authentic self.
also the first niyamas saucha (cleanliness). not just in my physical body, but by watching what i allow into my consciousness. what movies, tv & books i fill my time with, but also what and who i follow on social media. being aware and asking the question of does it serve me in the best way?
just a few examples, i could go on of course.. but i’d love to know, how do you all take your practice off the mat?🙏🏽💗

I’ve found myself all bound up during these past few weeks!😅
a series of challenges presented themselves at me while in the flow of a busy time of teaching and practicing.
somehow my front windshield got cracked and needs replacing, some other unexpected bills showed up, i got food poisoning and personal issues came up that stirred up deep emotions. 💸🤢💔🙈
times like this makes you want to ball up under a rock, get angry, or maybe even throw a tantrum. 🙊😅
yet, it’s these times exactly when i remind myself to smile and keep that focused gaze, my drishti!
i steady my breath to calm the mind and the heart, the ujjayi “victorious” breath.
i observe my thoughts and my patterns yet don’t judge them or attach.
it’s the #yoga that goes beyond the physical postures. it’s the yoga off the mat, yet the one we’ve been practicing on the mat all along. 🧘🏻♀️ through my #practice i find this center and where i find the most clarity, when i can reflect, meditate and allow myself to see the solution from different perspectives. i find stillness even in the bind. #garbapindasana#ashtangayoga#ashtangi#yogateacher@yogaworks 📸 taken by fellow ashtangi @cortland.yoga

I haven’t been doing much physical yoga practice over the past week in order to rest an injury, but i find just because i’m doing less on my mat doesn’t mean i seek the feeling of inner peace that yoga often brings any less. so i’m noticing the other areas in life that help me get to that tranquil, quiet place. for instance, today i spent hours at the beach on a beautiful sunny day, and now i feel intensely peaceful 😍✨✌🏽🌊
Because we all need to be reminded of this and i love this woman and her book!!!🙌🏽❤️ listening to the audio, it's the best. it's like we're girlfriends sharing, chatting it up and lifting each other up! check it out ✌🏽 #repost@msrachelhollis with @get_repost
you're doing so many beautiful things. so many wonderful, incredible, simple, smart, kind, funny, beautiful things. don't let your fear of lacking make you dismiss the abundance of beauty you give to the world.
