It’s mid term week here and while i initially thought it would be a good opportunity to get a load of work done without all the school runs it has now turned in to a week of self and family care. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
we had previously planned at trip to everyone’s favourite swedish home store to get new function-able furniture for the boys room to replace the broken c**p they already have, so it has now morphed from a lazy week to a week of care and attention to all the home stuff that gets overlooked sometimes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
yesterday i bit the bullet and cleared out loads of clothes i no longer wore and sorted out our bedroom storage. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
the girls room is well underway to bring more organised before getting redesigned sometime after disney. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i’m heading into the boys room after lunch to prepare for tomorrow’s reorganisation! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i may not like them very much by the end of it but i have resolved to not putting off the c**p jobs any more! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
the sewing is waiting until next week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
this week is about taking care of my little cocoon and putting us all first.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i know you will all understand and all orders will be processed from the weekend on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

tammikuussa meille muutti mini-ihminen. alkuun siitä oltiin tosi kiinnostuneita, kunnes kiinnostus vaihtui mustasukkaisuuteen. huomiota pitikin yhtäkkiä jakaa ja se otti lexillä vähän koville. lexi saattoi illalla vaan mennä lattialle makoilemaan naama visusti seinää kohti nukkumaan mennessä, kun aikasemmin meillä oli pienet iltahulinat sängyssä ennen kuin valot sammuu. nykyään se pikkujätkä on ihan ok. lexi on oppinu tosi hyvin miten pikkujäbän kans ollaan eikä pahemmin kaksikkoa tarvi vahtia. kun jäbä alkaa itkemään, lexi tulee huolissaan meijän luo, et tehkää nyt jotai sillä on hätä. ja mikä parasta, jäbän myötä on tullu esim. tällasia mageita loikoilupaikkoja🤩
ihanaa hiihtolomaviikkoa kaikille! lexi saa tänään hiihtolomakamuja kylään🤗
i'm always on the move now so you wont see me on my back anymore. this was the best that mom could do. i also love pulling up on almost everything which you'll see in my pics!
new developments this month
getting better at balancing and pulling up on everything
conquering falling and now can land on hands and knees instead of my head 😂
conquering foods: really love pieces of chicken, deli meat or sausage and puffs. cucumbers, melon, strawberries (one of my faves) and anything that mom and dad are eating
dad and i discovered i like chocolate 🍫
wearing size 6-9 month in onesies
still fit into 6 month pants and even 3 month pants but they are more capris at this point.
i get pretty cranky if i'm not being held or walked by mom, dad or haley (you'll see it in the photos too!)
wearing medium diapers still from dyper
i weigh 18.4lbs now!
nails grow like weeds and have to be cut every other day. i like digging/scratching them into things too.
sleep and me are still not friends. i sleep for about 2.5-3 hours a night but mom is noticing they stretches are starting to get longer
i still sleep in my bassinet but sometimes i dont like that and get away with sleeping in mom and dad's bed
i still sleep in my swing for naps. 1 week though i refused that and just slept on my nanny. she is so nice for letting me do that.
i hate getting my diaper changed and mom has to di while i'm standing up.
close to walking but not quite yet.
imitating sounds and babble a lot.
could have said hi as my first word.
i have big belly laughs
i'm becoming my own little man day by day. #8months#8monthsold#babyboy#babylife#baby
From the amazing em over at @raisingziggy 👏🏻 🙌🏼 “so what, you either sleep train, or you throw your hands up in the air and put up with it? why does it have to be one extreme or the other? isn’t there a middle ground?” i got this message on instagram, and it played in my head for days. the idea that by not sleep training we're not doing anything but ‘throwing our hands in the air and saying f**k it’ highlighted to me the misconceptions out there about parenting responsively.
it minimised the sheer amount of effort that goes into constantly finding the balance between what our babies have needed and what we’ve had the capacity to provide.
i wish i could throw my hands in the air and say ‘fuck it’ and my kids would go to sleep. cause i throw my hands about and say ‘fuck’ a lot.
but it's not that simple. not with a baby who did everything they say ‘bad’ babies do. needing to sleep on me. needing to sleep with me. needing me to sleep. night after night after night.
parenting responsively 'was' finding the middle ground.
for me the middle ground was understanding that babies are born so ridiculously underdeveloped that they rely on us for survival. they have no concept of working hours and financial responsibilities, simply an innate need to be held. that's not spoiling or giving in, that’s the dyadic relationship doing what it’s programmed to do.
the middle ground was knowing that we are carry-mammals and are neurologically wired to calm down when carried and rocked. but unlike kangaroos we don’t come with an inbuilt pouch and arms get tired, so using baby carriers for walks and for naps is not a bad habit, it's adapting to the situation at hand.
the middle ground was understanding that feeding a baby to sleep is effective because the levels of melatonin rise in the evening, so it literally puts them to sleep. closing my ears to the harmful advice around ‘scheduled feeds’ and ‘crutches’, and instead following my babies lead, because they know their hunger better than someone who has never met them before.” continued in comments...
