yes, we use tempo / lower speed lifting 🐌 at times for specific purposes. but when it comes to maximizing strength gain 🏋️‍♂️, we want lifters to be (reasonably) fast or at least intend to move fast 💨. ⁣

while this study showed these results in the bench press, we have other data from blanco, 2014 demonstrating max intentional velocity lead to superior stimulus for improving athletic performance in the back squat 🏋️‍♂️.⁣

you’ve probably seen an athlete or two or practically pops ibuprofen like skittles 🍬 to get through their training. while we often hear about ⬇️ inflammation as much as possible, we have to remember that the inflammatory process is still a vital part of training and recovery ⭕️. of course, most things aren’t exactly black and while…⁣⁣

for example, trappe 2002 found ❌no❌ changes in muscle protein synthesis with 1200 mg ibuprofen and 4000mg paracetamol while a placebo group had a 76% ⬆️ 24 hours post 10 sets of 10 eccentric leg extension at 120% 1rm. that’s a lot of muscle damage inducing work to have no increase in mps 24 hours after exercise.⁣⁣

however⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣
this may be ❗️dose dependent❗️ as 400mg ibuprofen post exercise did not change muscle hypertrophy in trained subjects (krentz, 2008) this was also only on training days so 800-1200mg per week. ⁣⁣

this referenced study for the post was 8 weeks lifting with 1,200mg ibuprofen every day vs 75mg aspirin, showing less than half the gains in the high dose ibuprofen group.⁣⁣

there are only 2️⃣ studies at this time that look at the long term training effects meaning we have much more to learn on this topic still!⁣⁣

maybe taking ibuprofen only on training days isn't so bad, but daily high dose does appear to shave off the gains a bit.⁣⁣

Slight variation of a bentover row using a hammer style grip. with rows, i find that people use too much arm and shoulder to be an effective back exercise. the primary movement should be with squeezing the lats together, bringing the arms along for the ride .

Having ms olympia x10 @iriskyle to coach me is something i never think of. however, here i am!! i know you wanna know how she is, how her training would be etc. she’s a legend but she’s a humble,thoughtful,kind and down to earth. since it’s a upper body workout, i had to tell her about the surgery i had and how my arm feels right now. iris arranged me meeting @karlen_ifbbpro right after our session to see what they can do to help my arm motion better. i appreciate what they did for me. what you see here is i’m training with iris, but what i learnt is far beyond this. i learnt to be humble, help people when you can, stay happy and be passionate about what you are doing. ❤️
