This is greg. while i was cutting hair for another gentleman, greg came and sat down and immediately started ticking. he screamed a little then cleared his throat and said a curse word. when i looked up at him he said "i'm sorry i have tourette syndrome." i said i know both my kids have it also. he said what!? i laughed a little and said yes both my children have tourette's. he was utterly shocked and said "i've never met anyone else with this, can i please meet them!" i don't think greg has traveled much and left this little town. i told him there's a whole organization the tourette's syndrome association that helps people that have tourette's and offer support groups and have meetings. i could see the relief in greg's face and shoulders that tourette's is known and it's out there and it's completely normal. he says he can't go to the movies or go many places in public without people looking at him like he's a freak. greg told me that he has cleared out grocery store isles because of his cursing and his movements. tourette's is a very complicated syndrome and it may look like people are crazy on the outside but that's just a neurological disorder and they can't help it. try to stifle a sneeze you won't be able to do it, it's going to come out that's what it feels like to have tourette's but that's only the tip of the iceberg. tourette's causes depression, adhd anxiety, and a whole host of other feelings not to mention the exhaustion it takes from your body having physical tics. i'm so happy i was able to meet greg and i promised him i'd bring in some support materials that my kids read so he'll be able to educate himself more on this syndrome and realize that he's not alone at all! #tourettes#tourettesyndrome#bekind#helpothers#domore#benice#homelessness#bepatient#barberlove#hairdresser#bethechange#beawesometosomebody#lauraonthestreet
