October 2007 was an important time for 13 year old me. it was my last year of middle school (at last!), i had discovered modern music including green day as well as avril lavigne’s “best d**n thing” album. i remember getting the cd from the library and pulling the booklet out, marveling at the photos while i listened to the whole album on my cd player.
i had always s****d at portraits and drawing humans that didn’t look like the pigs from twilight zone’s “eye of the beholder” episode. no matter how hard i tried i would draw these ugly noses and teeth.
so i quit.
i was so obsessed with the album photos, how cool she looked, that i decided i had to try again. after several years of refusing to draw any people. i don’t remember how long this took but i know i was up til very late hours of the night, sitting on the floor of my room, super excited that it was finally coming together. and i’m still happy i went back and tackled it, even if it did take some years of stepping back then trying again.
i’m proud of little me for trying again, without her i wouldn’t be at my current level for my craft.
don’t give up, even if you have to wait some years. if you want it badly enough, passion will strike and you’ll find the way. #flashbackfriday#throwback#drawing#art#avrillavigne#bestdamnthing#music
Oh gosh what a year! definitely one of the most challenging mentally and physically. we started off schooling novice and feeling ready for the move up. but the i got a super bad concussion and sprained knee, in the midst of that all hugo had to be taken to emc. he got kicked in the spleen and had to be there for a week and then still was a while tell i could even walk him. slowly could start working him more and jumping. we had a lesson with my old trainer and got some of the best dressage and jumping work, hugo proved that he could jump a 3’6 oxer coming back from an injury haha. then he had his first ht back and blew us all away even scoring a second, even though i didn’t expect to get anything. then was our first novice...and oh boy was that a doozy. dressage was fantastic. sj was slow and stoping by the rail because of the horses. xc we had another stop at nothing and a stop at the jump into the water. looking back on it we should have taken some more time to prepare as just both our brains where fried. after that did lots of schooling and lessons. at shows they where getting better but still getting at least one rail. i did show stuff in this that i have not showed social media at all, i do show our not so our perfect moments but some of them i don’t. it is hard to know what social media wants to see because if you only show good then you get criticized. if you show bad all the time then you get criticized too. millbrook was by far the best and worst. dressage was god awful but then sj and xc where fabulous and i wouldn’t change a thing about them. now we have started schooling the training stuff and honestly it’s going way better then training for novice. can’t wait to see what 2020 brings but you gotta just keep pushing through. 🤍🤍🤍
