if you feel lost today, this is for you.
the last time i was in israel, i spent an afternoon with a bedouin shepherd, which made so many things in the bible come to life. the most impactful thing was when we noticed that this injured sheep had been left behind. as the flock moved up the hill, this sheep simply couldn’t keep up, and so it was forgotten—the flock and the shepherd moved on (you can see them near the top of the hill).
straight away i thought of jesus telling his followers that he is the sort of shepherd who would never leave a single sheep behind (luke 15:4-7).
when jesus told this story, he was speaking to biblical scholars, and his words would have reminded his audience of psalm 23, where god is described as a shepherd. verse 3 of this famous poem says the the lord “restores my soul”, a line that brings hope to many jesus followers … but do you really know what this means?
well, the hebrew word we translate as “restore” is the word “shuv” (שוב, pronounced “shoob”), which means “to bring back”. the word “shuv” refers to someone being brought back home, not just once, but repeatedly. the idea of psalm 23:3 then, is that god continually brings us back home to himself. and jesus repeated this idea, saying he is the sort of shepherd who chases after any of his lost sheep in order to bring them back home!
as i watched this sheep get left behind, i learned that a shepherd leaving 99 sheep to go after one makes no logical sense … until that one is you.
so, if you feel lost today, or if you feel left behind like this sheep, take heart ... because jesus promises to continually chase after you, so that he can bring you home.
who do you need us to pray for today?
“suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?” — luke 15:4
Jesus spoke to them saying, “i am the light of the world. whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (john 8:12) #pirategirl#intheword#john

.. i came across this post today whilst i was scrolling thru my feed and chuckled to myself thinking 'ain't that the truth!' there are many times we may find ourselves wondering what god is upto!.. why are we going through this and why we are going through that! it can be difficult especially if you experience hardship and struggles in these seasons!
some of us may feel alone and that god is not listening to our prayers.. because we keep praying and the struggles are still real as ever!.. be encouraged god is there in every moment!.. he hears our prayers and sees our tears.. every single one! god cares about everything that concerns you it's just that what he has in store for us means that we need to go through some things to get there.. it's not always fun but it is always necessary! in these seasons we grow.. our faith becomes stronger.. we rely on god completely.. not trying to force god's hand so we can do things in our way and in our own timing!.. just remember when we walk ahead of god.. we are walking out of his perfect will for our lives! we think we know better right?.. no we don't! we just expose ourselves to getting into all sorts of predicaments! and when it all goes wrong and we fall flat on our face.. god is not to blame!..
we may not understand the process that we are in right now.. but know that it is necessary! god's ways are not our ways.. his timing is not our timing.. his thoughts for us far supercede that which we think for ourselves!.. god's got this! he is our creator.. the one who created the universe by just speaking it into existence.. so rest easy knowing that gods promise for you shall come to pass! he keeps his promises.. he loves you.. and he just wants you to trust him..
think on this: god knows every intimate detail of your whole life story.. we just see today's page!

There is one thing we cannot deny. change is inevitable in this life. neighborhoods change, people change, communities change and the seasons change.
from the uncom-men devotional on the bible app.
Do we sometimes wonder why some individuals find it difficult to love? the reason is that, they don't understand what love is and so they can't give what they don't have. we need to continue to love them and importantly pray that they recieve god's love by allowing god to love them and only then will they understand what it means to be loved and love others. #bibleverseoftheday#loveunleashedonline#love
