Autumn time reads🍁🍂🎃👻🦃
im bookstagramming. guys i’ve been desperate to read but i know i can’t (i can barely read what i have to for school) and it’s been killing me that i haven’t posted in here because it was making me so happy, so here’s a bunch of autumn colored books.
have notice a few post about design of books and new v old books, especially around penguins and thought i would add my thoughts.
one of the things that draws me to the old penguins, and i except alot of people, is the colour and uniformity of the tribands. the simple design stood out and quickly became a classic.
seems that over time this simple design went through so many variations and modernisation that the meaning and purpose got lost.
a case in point is the photo attached. i buy alot of modern non fiction as well as the classics and have acculumated a number of modern penguins.
both stacks show some of my more modern penguins but to me the right-hand side screams penguin while the left hand side could be any publisher.
the orange (and one ring in black😎) triband spines are easily recognisable and really bring back the classic style. the covers are very much individualised but added with the spine make a great looking book.
on a side note within the right hand stack and possibly the scariest book i have ever read. command and control by eric schlosser details the amazing mismanagement of america's nucleur arsenal. the stories told of missing bombers, missing missiles, containmented silos is extraordinary and nightmarish. will worth a read.
It’s been a monday but we made it!
i’ve been eyeing this book and this trilogy for a very long time now. i’ve seen it posted here and there around #bookstagram. of the captions that i see, most are fairly minimal i think because the people posting about it love it so much that they have no words, right? that’s what i’ve gathered, anyway.
so when my birthday came up and i sent my book list to my sister, i was told my brother-in-law took one look at the list, saw the title, and immediately decided this was the one i had to read.
i cannot wait! my fall break, coming up in about three weeks, has never looked better (unless i manage to get to this one sooner than expected)!
has anyone else read a darker shade of magic or the whole shades of magic trilogy? what did you think? if you’re a fan, what’s your favorite aspect about these books?
