It’s the end of my long weekend and i am not ready to go back to work!!! after a really, really long month and a half, i needed these last three days off (and some more, tbh, but that comes later).
but this weekend i: got my car cleaned, got a massage, read big chunks of threadwitch and kingdom of ash, did laundry, and made zucchini bolognese. so all in all, very productive and relaxing.
i am still neck deep in kingdom of ash - i’m on page 663 - and it’s killing me slowly. but this collector’s edition of throne of glass is bringing a smile to my nervous soul as i wade through the conclusion of the series.
and imagine my surprise when i pages through it and found this amazing map! it is just stunning and a new take on erilea. if you are a map nerd like me, you will love getting your hands on this book because it’s just too lovely. i had to show it for #mapmonday because i am all things tog right now.
and, okay, those tarot cards are just too beautiful not to be included in this (even though rowan isn’t in this book) and i was just blown away by their beauty. they came in the @shelflovecrate kingdom of ash box and i loved them immediately!!!
#qotd: what’s your favorite way to relax?
This is kind of an epic story - 4.25 🌟
nathan bird doesn’t believe in happy endings.
although he’s the ultimate film buff and an aspiring screenwriter, nate’s seen the demise of too many relationships to believe that happy endings exist in real life.
his best friend, florence, is set on making sure nate finds someone else. and in a twist that is rom-com-worthy, someone does come along: oliver james hernández, his childhood best friend.
after a painful mix-up when they were little, nate finally has the chance to tell ollie the truth about his feelings. but can nate find the courage to pursue his own happily ever after?
i really loved this story.
we follow nathan, his friends just call him bird. he has his best friend, florence and other kids from school like ashley or gideon.
the story starts to unravel in a way that i really appreciated. i loved the characters development, especially nathan's. it basically sounds like every other ya book but it is not and i adored the unique elementa and kheryn's writing style, very poetic.
this was a very cute rom-com that had such a beautiful ending. i really enjoyed the book and i find it to be such a good contemporary novel. i will definently reread this sometime it in the future. #books#book#instabooks#bookstagram#thisiskindofanepiclovestory#kheryncallendar#yabook#ebook#bookpile
Good evening lovlies! i am sorry for not posting on here in a long time. i took pictures and then lost the memory card. i just found it and have been able to take more pictures, so hopefully, i am able to start posting on here more regularly. i am going to be aiming to post on monday, wednesday, and friday, at least for now. that will also be the dates that i post on my blog. in other news, i am now on twitter under the username bookpile_blog.
The witch elm - tana french. 4/5. although i was disappointed to find out that tana french's new novel wasn't part of the dublin m****r squad series, it didn't disappoint. it is every bit as twisty and unsettling, and most importantly, just as well written. i really appreciated the depth of the main character, toby, a very privileged man who has absolutely no concept of his breaks in life. while he considers himself "lucky," he's never really stopped to think about what that means and has meant for his life. after his luck turns and he becomes the victim of a violent mugging, he returns to his childhood vacation home to lick his wounds. (while this part of the book seemed unrelated to the rest of the novel, it was actually my favorite part. french writes about his physical and psychological unravelling with an amazing adeptness that i found fascinating). once home, with the help of a starting revelation of a skull on the premises, he begins to realize that he's been living life under a golden veil and coming to terms with what that means for him, his relationships, and the people around him. toby is a seriously and fundamentally flawed character (something french does so well), and absolutely infuriating at times, but i love a book that makes me frustrated with, care about, and identify with the characters at the same time.⠀
On friday i sold my antique #aliceinwonderland for $100 in store credit at the loverly redux books. even though i kind of miss my alice--i had it for 25 years!--it was all kinds of big fun to spend that store credit!
my favorite is the old anne of windy poplars, followed by a really beautiful vintage heidi!
yes, there are two copies of pollyanna! i love to do cover showdowns and have all of you weigh in with your thoughts! (hence one more copy of anne of avonlea!). see anything you fancy on my luscious $100 bookstore credit pile?
