Another great utah general rifle hunt. my dad took a great shot on this old buck on a dead run. sadly the shot split the skull. we will have to work some magic to get this one mounted. #utahriflehunt#browningxbolt#velvetmuleys

Was able to get out and spend some time chasing elk with my oldest son logan this weekend. an accident at work ended my hunting season before it even got started this year, but logan still has tags to fill, so we took the opportunity to try and get in front of the right kind. glassed some really nice bulls that were way off on a distant ridge on day 1, did a quick regroup and got on them early on day 2. unfortunately, my son got a good dose of what it feels like when the cows bust you 😂 we found them grazing on a very small patch between a n***d ridgeline and heavy timber. wind was in our favor, but approach and cover options were extremely limited. we had to get s****d close to get a clear shot and although they didn't wind us, the cows just knew something was up. they bolted before we could set him up on the trigger stick and quickly ghosted us in the deep timber. as hard as it was to watch them split the scene, it was a great experience for him and he learned a ton. disappointment was minimal, as we both were thankful for the experience and my legs were especially thankful that there wasn't a 8 to 10 hour pack out waiting for me lol! we will be back on them next weekend and hopefully this time they are set up where logan can make a good shot 👍
The shot not taken. had great day goose hunting with my father in law. with the last set of geese come and gone i am glassing the field for the fun of it. spot a beautiful black bear at about 350 yards. big, healthy with bushy fur and a big white spot on its chest, i put it at 450 to 500lbs.i grab my rifle out of the truck and start sneaking closer. i get to 150 yards and have the rifle up and cross hairs on him. i did not take the shot. i can punch holes in a target within a1/4 or better, of each other at 100 yards but to tell the truth i have never shot my rifle at anything living. i couldn't shoot prone and was too unstable (no shooting sticks) to shoot sitting up and had nothing to rest my gun on. i owed the bear a sure shot and no suffering so i put the rifle down pulled out my phone and snapped this photo. i stood up, thanked the bear for the opportunity and walked away. it seen me and immediately bolted. i will go back and this time be more prepared and i prefer being 20-40 yards with my bow.
Another alaska hunt in the books. passed on a couple of rutted out trophy bulls to get this nice dry out. so many road hunters to completely enjoy the hunt. up next kodiak deer and mountain goats.#alaska#kuiu#hunting#caribou#300wsm#browningxbolt
