i've probably been following a keto diet for a couple months now... 🤔

a little bit before i started 👇
i knew of the keto diet, being high fat, low carb😦. the thing that really triggered me to actually try it though, was a class i took not too long ago. the class/enterprise was called "integrative veterinary medicine"🏥. i study animal science 🐮, and who would've thought a class like that would change my lifestyle 🤷‍♀️.

the whole quarter was dedicated to the health and well-being of animals🐒, but the instructors of the class also emphasized that you cannot help animals be healthy, if you yourself are not.
🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
and with that, the class ended with a lecture about the ketogenic diet. 🥓🍳🥑🥥
it honed in on the research of the diet to help epileptic patients, and even cancer patients!😱

first off let's give you some info on how the tricep is broken down, there's three parts to the tricep, hence "tri". there's the medial head, which is very small and lies beneath the long head), the larger portion of the horseshoe the long head and finally the lateral head, the other larger portion that wraps around the arm.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
so if you are incorporating a few push movements in your routine, especially the compounds, you are probably already included some tricep stimulation in the first place but if you want to focus on a certain part of the tricep then you can give these exercises a go.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
some individuals have difficulty with getting the mind and muscle connection on perhaps the lagging part of their tricep, so if you have a lagging area try thinking of it as a leg extension to where if you turn inwards on the movement you are going to be more focused on the lateral tricep and if you turn your hands outward it's going to focus more on the medial tricep. the long head will be overhead movements of the tricep exercise. there is one other exercise that i did not include on here just because i don't favor and it's the skull crusher exercise, this is also more focused on the long head but several individuals have a tough time in the execution of the movement including myself so i no longer incorporate it due to elbow pains in the past.

well, if you’ve heard and read me long enough you know i believe in always trying to take the healthiest and most natural route possible. the operative word here is “trying” 😄 .

i believe in a relatively clean and healthy keto lifestyle— with the occasional side of bacon and butter 👍

generally speaking, however, it’s not always possible or practical to follow every detail of your healthy-driven life. .

for instance, i may very well be someone who carries around his own sweetener in his pocket so he’s always ready. but then what happens when you run out or lose your stash or just forget? cry 😢 .

my point is this— there are times in my daily keto grind when i just don’t care if everything is meeting my personal standards. .

in other words, i hate artificial sweeteners and i know they are not good for me. but dang .... if i’m in the mood for a diet pepsi, trust me, you can’t find a man big enough to stop me— believe that 💪. i’m going to get my pepsi on. .

so, i make my exceptions when i feel the need. yes, i’ll use splenda or equal sometimes. ok, ok, now can you please stop gasping for air and gritting your teeth at me. it’s my body yo! you do yours and imma do mine 😎

now having said that, there is one sweetener and one sweetener only that i have been using for years now. .

“in terms of weight loss energy balance is key (howell & kones 2017). simply being in a caloric deficit is what is needed for f*t loss. realistically, energy balance allows us to eat anything & still lose weight. however, this is not what i recommend. aim for 85%+ of your calories to from whole foods & the rest for "treats”, after all we want long-term change, right?🤔
here's some more tips to help with your f*t loss journey.

sleep is a factor, which is often overlooked in terms of weight loss. sleep deprivation is associated with a decrease in leptin levels, which leads to increases in hunger. it also causes increases in ghrelin levels, which has the same effect (taheri et al., 2004). this can make it much harder to adhere to your diet. poor sleep quality & quantity causes increased cortisol levels, which add to general physical and mental fatigue (weitzman et al., 1983, gore et al., 1993). again, this can really be detrimental to long-term adherence

🥝fibre is quite satiating and so may indirectly help with f*t loss (rebello et al., 2014). the literature also seems to show a very favourable trend between high fibre intake and f*t loss (slavin 2005, champagne et al., 2012). as well as this, high fibre intake also helps fight against type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and cvd (lattimer et al., 2010)

🏋🏻ho et al. (2012) carried out a randomised trial to compare the effects of 12 weeks of aerobic, resistance or combination of exercise on f*t loss and cvd risk. they found that combination exercise gave greater benefits for weight loss, f*t loss and cardio-respiratory fitness than aerobic and resistance training modalities individually

🍗high protein diets are essential to those who exercise, with recent research showing 0.72g/lb adequate to optimise hypertrophy (morton et al., 2017). as well as this, high protein diets lead to higher lean body mass retention during prolonged phases of caloric restriction (mettler et al., 2010)”
