Day 15 in #21daysinmyartworld by @taraleaver. how i name my paintings... let me count the ways! after people i know, lines from songs, a memory, something cheeky, literal of what the subject is, or even just a numbered series. most of the time names come while i'm in the process of painting. it's not a challenge for me, i just let the painting do the talking! 😜
Sold! day 14 of #21daysinmyartworld. the last piece i sold was this little landscape. and right now i'm working on a huge commission. some months i sell a lot and others i sell nothing. it's a roller coaster for sure! but i feel very fortunate everytime i sell any work of mine, large or small. someone has chosen to take a piece of my heart and make it a part of their life. i mean, this is my job?! to create, to paint a bit of joy, to share and connect with others....i am continually amazed and always grateful.
And....we are on day 13 of #21daysinmyartworld with @taraleaver. art process. so, i had to think about this one all day. i approach new paintings differently each time i face the canvas, but i realized that there is one thing that is the same about my process no matter what i work on... layers. in 2015 i spent ten months in an art residency in baltimore and really pushed myself to explore and learn new techniques i had never done before. in the process i discovered how blissful it felt to add one layer on top of another and just keep going. it was something i had already begun to do with my abstract floral paintings but when i was working on non objective abstracts i really went all the way... scribbles, spray paint, rubbings, veiling, all kinds of mark making and these layers of transparent fluid paint. i have since figured out how to incorporate these discoveries into my current work so that no matter my subject, no matter how i start a painting, i know that the real fun is in the process and the discovery of layers.

☀️happy mandala monday ☀️
wishing you a lovely week ahead ✌️💛
Feeling an intense pull to make more art, more collages, more visual expressions again. to play and experiment. i have somanyideas and none of them are really very clear yet but with patience and an ear always to the heart, i’m sure something will begin to make sense. it always does eventually.

“it's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” ― paulo coelho, the alchemist. late night reading with my sick kids. i always try reading one of my picture-less books to nora and everett when they can’t sleep. i tell them to close their eyes and see the story... and go to sleep! 😂#makeart2018
Usual scene at my desk tonight—a big mess and a toddler stealing my stuff! 😊 the new year has brought a lot of deep thinking for me and i’ve decided to chill out on being a task master for awhile and enjoy my amazing little girl before she’s in school. enjoy my life in general. i love being productive but i’ve spent too long stressing about how to do it all and do it right now, and it’s taking a toll on my mental and physical health. last year we moved away from family to a new state, with a baby, with no jobs set up, and that would’ve been enough without setting a whole other load of expectations for myself. whew... time for a change. i’ll still be working on illustrations at a snail’s pace because i am unhappy when i don’t get to paint at all, but i probably won’t be posting here very often for awhile. i’m sure that when i do, they will be happier and less stressed posts! thanks for listening. 😊❤️❤️
Design inspo! this mini watercolour print created by @megyalook is adorable! thinking of making some cacti inspired art. leave a comment below if you’d like to see me do that when i get back from my trip! #marceildesign
