is a small rocky island of the couesnon river estuary, located in the normandy region, in northwestern france. it owes its name to the abbey consecrated to the cult of the archangel saint michael and whose name in latin during the middle ages was mons sancti michaeli in periculo mari. this island is also the natural center, in the absence of being the geographical center, of the town of monte saint-michel, belonging to the canton of pontorson, in the french department of manche.
the prodigious architecture of mount saint-michel and its bay make it the busiest tourist site in normandy and one of the first in france, with about 3.2 million visitors every year.

The first lord of kasteel de haar, knight coenraet, was a man who believed neither god nor commandment. one night he wanted to ride over the castle bridge on horseback, when a complaining voice asked for help. he was a pilgrim who, exhausted with hunger and fatigue, asked for a night's rest and food. the knight refused and commanded him to leave, and the man exclaimed in despair: 'i am as human as you are'. 'what a mockery the knight coenraet made. a thresher imagines himself to be my equal.' and giving his horse the tracks, he rode laughing from thence, but deceived by darkness, he plunged into the water beside the bridge and drowned. knight coenraet, condemned to wander forever, has also often been seen, in full armour, near the bridge over the moat.

(en) the castle that was originally built in the 13th century is now totally ruined but not abandoned - as it was bought through a crowdfunding platform @dartagnans by enthusiasts from around the globe. a restoration plan is now being designed for the castle to shine again! it changed many hands throughout its turbulent history - was seized several times by the english during the hundred years’ war, retaken by the french, damaged during the french revolution, rebuilt twice only in the 19th century to be finally devoured by a massive blaze in 1932.

The magnificent duff house in banff. designed by scotland's preeminent architect william adam in 1735 for the duff family but sadly the full plans where never completed as architect and client fell out over spiraling costs so the collonades and wings, much like hopetoun house and haddo house, were never built. duff house is now an @historicscotland site with strong links with @natgalleriessco with many incredible art pieces, currently including paintings by claude monet and sir john lavery.
