Myself and mary robinson just interviewed kumi naidoo - he is the new head of @amnesty and the maker of all kinds of ‘good trouble’. excited and hopeful about leaders like him. hear him on the next episode of @mothersinvent
as he says...
“our world is facing complex problems that can only be tackled if we break away from old ideas that human rights are about some forms of injustice that people face, but not others. the patterns of oppression that we’re living through are interconnected.
you cannot talk about the climate change crisis without recognising that it is also an inequality and race issue; you can’t address s****l discrimination without recognising that it is bound up in the economic exclusion of women; and you can’t ignore the fact that people’s civil and political rights are often suppressed exactly when they are trying to demand basic economic justice.” #climatejustice#humanrights#feminism
When i started doing this 8 years ago my life looked completely different than it does today.
i love my life now so much. it's the life i created intentionally.
it's certainly far from perfect, as am i, but it's truly mine.
it's because of the butterflies. the time i spend doing this just feeds my soul.
look at these pics i got today! 😀🌍🦋🏞️ this is the s*&@ that makes my soul sing, and once i started feeling that, i wanted as much of it as i could possibly get. in every part of my life.
so i changed pretty much everything - well, all the external things that were bringing me down. my relationship & my career.
you can do whatever you need to do too & if you already have or are in the process, yay!!!! please know that there are people that love you. and that are here for you. 🤸🤸🤸
i need to save the world for the butterflies & for all of us. i need all of you to help me save it.
save it for love. save it for each other.
because i love you you all. and i love the earth..and when we have love, we can do anything. love really can change the world. ❤️💜🌍❤️♥️❣️🌍🌍🌍🌍 hope you like the pics and they put some love in your heart!
A prayer from yesterday’s gathering for mother earth (hosted by @tewawomenunited and friends) kept coming alive for me during today’s march for #climatejustice in #santafe (organized by @solforall ) — waters of the world, forgive me; waters of the world, thank you; waters of the world, i love you #waterislife
“frodo: i wish the ring had never come to me. i wish none of this had happened.
gandalf: so do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. there are other forces at work in this world, frodo, besides the will of evil.” - gandalf the grey #lotr#wisdom#climatejustice#climatechange
it is important for us to remember that climate change poses unequal burdens. both hurricane #florence and super typhoon #mangkhut laid bare the disproportionate consequences for poor communities. ⠀
hurricanes can k**l anyone of any class, anywhere near enough to a coast. but it’s been well-documented that hurricanes hit poor, minority communities the hardest. they are more vulnerable to the risks of natural disasters, and struggle most to recover. ⠀
climate justice is social justice. 💪⠀

Yet another reason #climatejustice means #prisonabolition 😡😡😡 "the bob barker company, a fundamentalist faith-based christian private prison supply corporation, just donated hundreds of “inmate” supplies— including actual detention jumpsuits as seen here, to the victims of hurricane florence in lumberton, north carolina. most of the impacted community here are low income, indigenous, and black residents. we shouldn’t have to tell you why this is f****d up. the company sells products that include prisoner and officer uniforms, bedding, toiletries, and security and restraint equipment." repost from @bayou_action_street_health
