[english] an elephant is in the middle of oil palms. (hotli sumanjuntak / epa)
after the complete felling of the natural forest, the elephants flee to other forests or go into palm oil crops in search of food but are shot.
the aceh administration program in indonesia uses already domesticated elephants to patrol and chase away the wild elephants that eat the oil palm trees and prevent them from being shot by the crop guards.
the solution to all this is to stop buying products with palm oil. do you still buy things with this oil? the change starts with you

The jungles of indonesia are rich in biodiversity and full of life. making them some of the most important habitats on the planet.
@jasonsavagephoto found this big male orangutan while out patroling with the @sumatranrangerproject in the leuser ecosystem in north sumatra. he was with 4 other orangutans right by the jungles edge.
with their homes being destroyed for palm oil plantations and agriculture, their future is uncertain. with only 7000 sumatran orangutans left they are listed as critically endangered by the icun. making this encounter with these amazing animals even more special.
----------------------------------------------------
the leuser ecosystem is the last place on earth you can find critically endangered elephants, orangutans, tigers and rhinos all in the same area.

#repost πŸ›‘πŸ™Š #orangutan desperately tries to stop men who are bulldozing and destroying his forest home!!! 😭 .

what are we doing to this beautiful planet and it’s precious inhabitants? do you know that #orangutans are critically endangered and could go extinct in the wild within our lifetimes? πŸ’” .
_
please #cutconflictpalmoil. if you don’t know what i mean by that, research palm oil and the effect it is having and raise awareness of it.
_
we need to wake this sleeping world up because these men are only destroying this forest because of our demand for snacks, cosmetics and other products with #palmoil in them. most people in the west will be outraged watching this while consuming palm oil laden snacks and be none the wiser of their role in all of this.

orangutans are typically violently killed by those clearing forest for palm oil plantations but luckily this orangutan was rescued and taken to a sanctuary.

#alexbeldiphotography 😊 πŸŒŽπŸ˜πŸ†πŸ’πŸŒ±πŸ’« hello friends, i hope you all get a good energy from my photography so we can all come together as ‘’one people’’ to respect, preserve and protect our beautiful species, that’s the center of my photography.
on our planet there are estimating around 8.7 million animal species included us. i feel a powerful connection to nature’s strength and timelessness as many of the non-human animal species have lived on this planet millions of years before us. i’ve dedicated my last four years photographing a part of them and in a way bringing out the voice of those animals that don’t have a voice, but the journey is still long. after spending time in their natural habitat trying to capture an evocative image that may eventually describe them and show their beauty, hopefully it will bring the protection of our species into a wider consciousness. i sincerely hope that through my photography i managed to move some of my friends to care and respect wildlife a bit more, that would be already a good goal to me.
the best way to support my project is to order one of my works that hopefully reflects the love i feel for what i’m doing.
feel free to share my post and spread the word if you want to.

Regrann from @paulhiltonphoto - the beautiful bridge between earth and air! rainforests have been compared to natural sponges, moderating flood and drought cycles by slowing run-off and contributing moisture to the local & global atmosphere. rainforests are also important in reducing soil erosion by anchoring the ground with their roots. when trees are cut down there is no longer anything to protect the ground, and soils are quickly washed away with rain. on steep hillsides, loss of forest can trigger landslides killing communities and wiping out the vegetation and animals that have evolved there over vast amounts of time.
.
the leuser ecosystem, pictured here, is a work hundreds of thousands of years in the making. it cannot be replanted. we cannot 'borrow' giant patches of easy access lowlands, then expect these hillsides to perch without the footing that holds the hill. when humans forget the connectivity of nature, all logic and sense is forgotten. the short sited greed of palm oil corporations, and the corrupt individuals in human government are literally chopping off the feet upon which humanity has learned to stand. these rainforests are the source of global climate sustanance that we humans cannot live without. please learn more about this important ecosystem, tell your friends - join & share the movement!https://www.lovetheleuser.org
.
help us directly with a contribution to our forest & elephant patrols! link in bio :)

Team member @jasonsavagephoto takes this shot of a beautiful morning over the jungle in north sumatra, whole out patrolling with the @sumatranrangerproject.
which happened to be right next to an oil palm plantation that pushes on the national parks boundaries. there was even a herd of wild sumatran elephants feeding.
the jungles are under a massive threat and we are losing a massive amount of the planets biodiversity.
rainforests once covered 14% of the lands surface but in the last 40 years it now only covers 6%. we lose an acre of rainforest every second.
why is this important? rainforest are the lungs of the planet and are vital for keeping the planet healthy, by getting rid of green house gasses that we create, which helps to combat climate change.

the 19th august was international orangutan day; a day to recognise the most iconic victim of the palm oil industry. a gentle great ape whose numbers have been decimated in the last 20 years to the very brink of extinction.

sunrise over the leuser ecosystem in northern sumatra is a breathtaking sight, skies turn a bruised pink & the canopy is blanketed in mists. the dawn chorus is a cacophony of exotic birds, quivering insects, rambunctious money cries & if you’re lucky, with haunting orangutan & elephant song.

leuser is the last place on earth that elephants, tigers, rhinos & orangutans roam in the same forest.

despite leuser being an unesco world heritage site it is still being illegally deforested for palm oil plantations. the global desire for this cheap oil emboldens palm oil barons to destroy the ancient tropical rainforest to annex the ‘free’ land rather than pay to develop existing brown sites. international big corporations & governments do not insist on conflict free certified palm oil, therefore perpetuating the cycle of wildlife & climate crime.

the name ‘orangutan’ is derived from the malay & indonesian words for ‘person’ & ‘forest.’ these gentle red apes, these ancient people of the forests are teetering on the brink of extinction & by our hand. we are destroying their habitat in a criminally short sighted desire for this cheap oil. they are also trafficked, imprisoned as pets in small cages and brutalised beyond belief. what does this say about us as a species?

please support the organisations that work hard to protect the rainforests and all the beautiful creatures that live there @wildaid @leonardodicapriofdn @socp.official @international_animal_rescue @rainforestactionnetwork

[english bellow⬇️] ⚠️¿que pensáis del aceite de palma "sostenible" ?⚠️
[english] sustainable palm oil?
do you think they do not deforest by being sustainable ...? error, if they deforest, the impact is the same, animals die the same if they do not run away from the excavators. something that destroys the ecosystem completely in hours can not be sustainable.
once the trees are cut down we will have destroyed in 1 hour what the earth has create in millions of years.
what do you think about "sustainable" palm oil?
