“but then, one winter’s night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold...” 🥀 ✨
another garment vs design while i work on the tree of life and my halloween piece! 🌹 since the stained glass enchanted rose gown was made for the mousequerade, i didn’t get to talk about the design or creation process on here. while i sometimes use commercial patterns as a starting point for certain projects, this gown was 100% self pattern drafted since it needed such unconventionally shaped pieces. in the second slide are some wip photos of testing the petal placement, painting the leaves, and the original concept art for the piece since i have not yet had the chance to create a full illustration for this design! both the peplum leaves and skirt petals have wire sewn into the outer binding, which allows them to be adjusted to the right length for each model and easily flattened without damage for storage. the design, while first and foremost was inspired by the enchanted rose, was also influenced by dior’s “junon” gown and glinda’s bubble gown from wicked, designed by susan hilferty (slide 3). like the enchantress, this gown was also fully hand painted, although the rose is the only one of the two to include glitter paint! and before anyone asks... my arm is underneath my hair 😜✨
An hsm reboot? trust me, like you i was very nervous...however, upon watching an episode and meeting this talented and dedicated cast i’m certain you will all love it! they’ve truly created something different and unique while still paying great respect to the original. it’s actually quite brilliant! this cast is the real deal👏🏽 for me, one of the best aspects of high school musical was that it gave kids from all over the world the courage to explore the arts. i’m so excited that hsm will continue to introduce musical theatre to a new generation! what team?! #d23expo
