As a coach and a member of the fitness industry, i can sometimes feel this overwhelming pressure to have a certain level of body positivity at all times. as someone who constantly reiterates the importance of self love to the people around me, it can feel somewhat embarrassing to experience a period where i’m not feeling very confident myself.
-
realistically, being positive and confident at all times is impossible and after five weeks of indulging in the states (no ragrats), i found that i was harbouring some negative thoughts for the majority of last week.
-
it took a few days to get out of that mindset and to regain some normality in terms of my mental health. i started training and getting back into a normal routine and those thoughts naturally started to recede. my normal level of confidence and self love came back and i mean, sure, i’m feeling fuller than normal but all that extra weight - which seems to have migrated straight to my thighs - is only going to help me squat more, right? 😂🤪
-
all jokes aside, confidence isn’t something that is constant for most people. body positivity ebbs and flows and that’s okay. find what makes you feel confident and put it into practise and if you find yourself needing to speak to a professional to feel better, that’s okay too 💪🏼

Why we do compound lifts before isolation exercises👇 read below 👇 -
follow @p.t.pete for daily fitness/nutrition tips & education📚
-
compound exercises require the use of multiple muscle groups or joints at a time, the benefits of compound exercises are many. we like them because they’re efficient, saving us time by utilizing multiple muscles at once. you’ll see all kinds of compound exercises in your 8fit workout plan.
-
if your goal is to get fitter, compound exercises are an excellent addition to your fitness routine. by working multiple joints and muscles at the same time, you may end up burning more calories just because you’ll expend more energy. -
similarly, the multiple movements that take place during a compound exercise prepare your body to lift heavier loads than an isolation exercise. -
why’s that? it’s because your body utilizes more muscles to complete the workout, in turn signaling a larger hormonal response of testosterone which can repair structural damage and help you maintain your gains.
-
compound exercises are also ideal because they allow the body to move functionally and complete daily tasks with ease — that’s because exercises like squats and deadlifts simulate every-day movements like sitting down or standing up. if you’re looking to improve at sports or other athletic activities, compound exercises can help you reach your goals.

do your isolation movements of smaller muscles after the compounds as doing them first can cause them to fatigue and wont allow them to properly support your bigger muscle groups during the compound lifts eg. if you do tricep dips before bench pressing your triceps will be fatigued during the bench press causing you to fail earlier in the movement.

Can you progress it and drop it like a squat?
.
📍squatting comes in a variety of flavors, body positions, equipment, and mechanics. trainers and coaches often have difficulty separating novice to advanced exercises and progressions.
.
📍therefore, it is rather helpful for you to perform an initial assessment (i.e. fms, sfma, or similar) to find out where you client or athlete lies on the continuum in order to progress. for novice and intermediate individuals, it’s recommended you follow this order to learn proper patterns before progressing.
.
📍you may have to spend some time within each phase of progression in order for the movement to be mastered. that’s ok because it’s called adaptation and neuromuscular efficiency. second, not everyone will go through this full list. many clients and athletes may stay in a specific zone due to limitations, injury or disinterest. that is totally cool because not everything is a barbell. as long as you continue to use progressive overload, you will create results.
.
📍how do you use progressions with you programming? tag someone who would need to see this.
