Sunday, october 15, 2017: a day that i’ll never forget. i signed up on january 1st with my best friend to run the detroit free press international 1/2 marathon. i made a promise to push myself harder than i ever have before and to do well in this event. however, this was not the case for me. a few months into the year i pushed my health aside and started forgetting everything i had previously taught myself in regards to eating healthy and working out regularly. i slacked off, and didn’t train. a few weeks before the race, my friend asks me if i’m still doing it. i replied “i guess so, since i paid for this”. race day arrives, and i tell myself to try and run as much as i can. i did fairly well, until mile 10. my leg muscles had started cramping and my feet were killing me. i stopped several times and thought “i can’t do this”. i almost quit. thankfully, there were several people that had stopped to make sure i was okay. every time they asked me if they should get medical, i said “no, i have to finish this”. one woman walked the last three miles with me. i can’t thank those people enough. they gave me the strength i needed to cross that finish line. also my amazing support system waiting for me at the end and those who came to see me. i’m taking this as a lesson. it was a gorgeous run, but it was also a wake up call to myself to put my health back as a priority. i would love to sign up for another 1/2 eventually. here’s to never giving up even when you feel like you can’t move forward. #detroit#detroitfreepressmarathon#detroitfreepresshalfmarathon#internationalhalfmarathon#usa#canada#fitness#ididit
