I think the same people that tend to actively preach the reality of institutionalized racism forget what it really means. in most southern-american states, racial laws were still in place - this is what made them institutional, because there were institutions practicing by them. after doing some research, i've come to find that a lot of white americans didn't truly believe in racism, but a local government or as such would be pressing the idea of segregation on to them.
nowadays, white people really do not possess the institutional power to harm black americans. whatever racist acts are committed are done so out of opinion and out of their own freedom and liberty. that is why safe spaces are ridiculed - because people choose to be victimised and live in an echochamber rather than accept that the world around them exists.
