When i had my moment of doubt last week, @aysiamb reminded me of this quote by margaret mead: . “never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” power to you.✨ . @fgprivatecoach said: “when someone says that the world can not change, that only means that they are not the ones that will change it.” power to you.🌱 . @worldthreads said: “there’s a great post that says, ‘what difference is one [plastic] bottle going to make? says 7 billion people.’ every individual effort adds up!” power to you.🌍 . @keva.x said: “ripple effects are real and even if we don’t see the results immediately our during our lifetime, we all have the capacity to be part of lasting change.” power to you.πŸ™ŒπŸ½ . (more of your words of wisdom under “mindset” in my profile highlights.)πŸ’™ . it's true - you are just one person. but in our globalized world, your purchases have impacts across the globe. your words ripple off to those around you, then to those around those around you, and onwards. and your actions everyday influence the decisions of people who know and trust you, who then influence those who trust them.🌊 . never doubt that you, and everything you do, say, and buy matter. your sheer existence makes a difference, and it’s in your hands to own the power you have as one, aligning your impact with your vision of a thriving world. power to you!πŸ’ͺ🏽

“instagram is the worst social media network for mental health and wellbeing, according to a survey of almost 1,500 teens and young adults. while the photo-based platform got points for self-expression and self-identity, it was also associated with high levels of anxiety, depression, bullying, and fomo.” - article from time by amanda macmillan.πŸ™ˆ . i dug this up when my friend leah @stylewiseblog from @ethicalwriters mentioned it recently, and since we’re here i thought i’d share it with you.🌸 . sometimes i’ll go down the rabbit hole of instagram in search for creative inspirations, but then subconsciously shift into this social comparison mode even w/o intending to b/c that’s how we’re wired, and start being like whaaaaat… i wish i were on that vacation right now. i wish i could effortlessly look like that. i wish i could …πŸ™ˆ . and then i have to snap myself out of it to remember that everyone uses social media for different reasons - some for personal reasons, others for networking reasons, professional reasons, self expression, creative outlet, etc. for me, it’s a mix of all of these things.🌱 . but as a human, i just have to remind myself that perspective influences our emotions. and sometimes we have to consciously ask - what can i take away from this? how does this help me? how can i learn from this? - in order to shift our mindsets from a place of passive envy (which can be subconscious) into a place of active motivation and inspiration - fuel for forward-movement.🌟 . mental wellbeing account to follow: @letstalkaboutmentalhealth🌻 . i haven’t got it all worked out but am trying! what are your thoughts on the relationship between social media and mental wellbeing?πŸ’™

“it’s hard from a marketing point of view when artisan-made and ethical factory — two very different things — are lumped together [into ‘ethical fashion.’] . but i don’t think they need to compete. . if you’re making things from a factory, you can keep you prices fairly low because you can rely on the volume, while if you have a 100% artisan-made line, it has to be more expensive.” . harper poe of @proudmaryglobaltextiles on @consciouschatter (loved the eps!) . this was so spot on! so many people ask — isn’t conscious fashion more $$$? how can people afford?πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ . and i think this quote addresses a key part of this preconception.✨✨ . many conscious fashion brands have products that are literally hand-made, using local materials only available in small batches.🌸 so the hours, days, weeks, months, even, making a product out of materials collected at a natural pace as opposed to what’s churned out to feed demand… that inherently is really valuable, and imho, is the most respectful, honorable form of high quality luxury (not just a factory made product with a name brand label slapped on top and 100x markup just b/c).πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘ . but in conscious fashion, there are also ethical factory made clothes, like ones over at @everlane, which b/c of mass production and machinery help, can keep their costs and retail prices relatively lower, while still pushing for better practices than before.πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½ . on ave., i won't lie — i’d say conscious fashion is more expensive than fast fashion, but only b/c it takes into account the negative externalities and env and public health costs of producing a product with care. when something new is cheaply made and sold for next to nothing, it actually isn't cheap — it's just costly to things behind the scenes.πŸ™ˆ . i think when we can keep this in mind and opt for quality > quantity (1 hq shirt over 10 from zara / h&m), we’ll be headed in a much healthier direction for our mental, physical, and env wellbeing... ya feel?πŸ’™ . (omg probably my longest post yet hahah thanks for putting up with my musings) . what's your fave conscious brand that's lower in price, maybe b/c its products are made in mindful factories?🌱🌱

Sometimes... the best place to look for something "new" to wear is just the back corner of our wardrobes. . dug up this barely worn yet forgotten gem deep in my closet in la last month and was so delighted. this ever happen to you when re-organizing or decluttering your closet?πŸ™ˆ . on that note, if you have been or plan on decluttering your wardrobe (i find the start of a year / season is always a nice time to do this!) and want to make some $$ reselling high quality, still in great shape old clothes you no longer will make use of, check out the link in my bio for some great places to sell used clothes online! . the list includes some i've personally used and loved like @thredup, @poshmark, @therealreal, @tradesy; @materialworldco which will pay you upfront if it accepts what you mail in; & more. (ooh and @grailed for men's used clothes!) πŸ’° . alternative options for selling pre-owned would be via local consignment or thrift shops, marketplaces like etsy, or social media platforms.πŸ‘ŒπŸ½ . what am i missing as good places to sell pre-loved clothes offline or online or what have you tried and loved?πŸ’™

Two weeks ago, i asked what you’d recommend someone new to eco-living do as simple first steps. here are some tips you mentioned: . @vee_nicholette: “[eco-living] is a journey, not a race. i’d suggest a reusable water bottle, reusable bags for shopping / groceries, cloth napkins, and saying no to [plastic] straws whenever possible. sounds like a good start!” . @susantancerstudios: “think before you make a purchase. how was this item made? will this purchase help the world in some way?” . @benita_robledo: “buy second hand!’ . @acts_of_random: “carry your own water and grocery bags.” . @david_dakata: “give back to the earth like doing something for the environment.” . @stylemesustainable: “walk, bike + public transit as often as possible.” . @duthac: “no meat monday would be a gentle transition towards a more compassionate life with many environment benefits.” . @dssdntdrmr: “only use cash to buy things.” . @candicebatista: “being informative and doing research is probably the first step. [i’d also say] to purchase items that are reusable and recyclable.” . @sustaininglife: “ask questions about where things came from and who made them, and if they’re in season or local to these parts. just ask all kinds of questions so that you can start uncovering the true stories behind things and from there you’ll more clearly see where your best changes and decisions and actions can be made.” . @kingagorski: “try meatless mondays or eating meat only on weekends! that is a huge way to reduce your carbon footprint.” . @12thandviv: “read the label! if you can’t say it, don’t eat or use it.” . @pausepopup: “buy vintage!” . as i try to maintain a beginner’s mindset in everything i do, i hope to continually work on all of the above this year.🌱 . which do you hope to work on this year, and what’s missing here that you’d like to add as simple relative tips for an eco-curious fellow human (me😁)? . (πŸ“·@michaeljspear for @wheremountainsmeet )

“loving my body in all of its strength, and every part of me, inside and out, like never before. this year has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs and ins and outs. i have accomplished so much and know deep down in my heart that it all stems from my change of mindset. to a mindset of loving myself, first. . i have always known i was meant to be a champion for a more sustainable planet, and a place where nature’s creatures are cared for… but i wasn’t treating myself with the same compassion that i gave for my cause… i wasn’t until this year and it’s amazing to see my growth. here’s to an amazing journey that i wouldn’t change for the world! what are you working towards to reach your goals?" . — @renee.elizabethpeters of model4greenliving.com, a platform that provides practical tips and everyday actions that encourage mindful, sustainable living. . #consciousfashion πŸ“Έ: @renee.elizabethpeters . conscious fashion collective is a lookbook empowering change makers to make positive impacts through style. join us in celebrating progress in every form, and get inspired to step forward in your personal fashion path from conscious to sustainable. . tag @consciousfashion and use #consciousfashion to be spotlighted.

Yesterday i posted about the coconut chia seed pudding i was prepping, and this is how i used it today! πŸ₯₯i made a parfait with chopped persimmon and topped it with shredded unsweetened coconut which i buy in bulk. an easy, vegan breakfast that brought a bit of sunshine to my morning 🌞 i used a can of coconut milk for liquid (instead of milk in tetra paks, making this breakfast also zero waste 😊 it was so tasty and very very filling thanks to the f*t + fibre! would wholeheartedly recommend the @ohsheglows recipe for coconut chia pudding☺️ . . . . . . . #livegreen #sustainability #sustainable #sustainableliving #reuse #refuseplastic #strawssuck #saynotodisposable #vegan #veganbreakfast #zerowaste #zerowastelife #zerowastecanada #choosetoreuse #ecofriendly #eco #wastefree #bringyourown #noplastic #goingzerowaste #homemade #lifewithoutplastic #masonjars #ecolifestyle #sustainableproducts #ohsheglows #yayforearth #trashisfortossers #veganfood #healthybreakfast
