“if it wasn’t safe, it wouldn’t be on the shelves.” how many times i’ve heard this. there is no mandatory pre-market safety testing of cosmetics required by law in australia or the usa. many of the synthetic chemicals used in cosmetics have never even been tested for safety 🍃
✖️ eu law bans 1,328 chemicals from cosmetics that are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects. in comparison, in the u.s.a, the fda has only banned or restricted 11 chemicals from cosmetics. ✖️ a study by the center for environmental research & children's health at the university of california, berkeley, found levels of potentially toxic ingredients in teen girls dropped significantly in just three days after replacing all mainstream personal care products with safer, green alternatives. when we are talking about ingredients that have been proven to cause endocrine (hormone) disruption, among other harmful effects, i believe it is vitally important that girls start green beauty young. ✖️ many components of fragrance have been linked to and/or proven to cause endocrine disruption, reproductive failure, o***n system toxicity, developmental disorders, and cancer. synthetic fragrance can contain hundreds of individual chemicals. ✖️ many products claim to be organic or natural, or have phrases like "contains botanical extracts" on the label - but this doesn't mean the product is 100% natural, certified organic or non-toxic. marketing terms are pretty loosely regulated, and almost any product can put the words "natural" or "organic" on the label - without being either.
