[read 🗣🗣] don’t let fear trick you into believing god isn’t with you. don’t let pain trick you into believing god isn’t healing. don’t let obstacles trick you into believing god isn’t restoring. don’t let chaos trick you into believing god isn’t moving on your behalf! whatever you are going through, know this one thing! god is still god! he is still making provision for you, he is still opening doors for you, he is still destroying yokes for you, he is still breaking chains for you. don’t you dare sit there and allow the wrong things that happen in your life trick you into believing god is non existent! he is still all mighty, he is still all powerful, he is still the great i am.
Three years ago i arrived in new zealand not knowing how i was going to stay in the country. many of you already know this story, but this post highlights two people that extended their hands and offered me help when i needed it most. @psycho_suttie and arna from @etkhq told me they'd do whatever it takes to help me say in nz to be with my son. they agreed to help me with a work visa, but i ultimately decided to bite the bullet, take out a school loan, and get a student visa instead. thankfully, this is only where the story begins.
after auditioning my skills for pati, jason and i worked together to create a strength and conditioning programme at etk. within a few weeks, i was teaching two weekly classes - bulletproof and fighter's mind. jason sent his fighters to me to get stronger. this was a long time before jason was doing ice baths, cold showers and wim hof breathing, so i'm still surprised that he insisted his fighters also come to me for meditation and mindfulness practices leading up to fights. he instinctively knew the difference for his fighters would be in how they trained their mind.
the first 12-16 months were an absolutely wild ride. victor mechkov won his first king in the ring (the biggest 8-man kickboxing tournament in nz), along with a world title. joey baylon accomplished the same in his weight class. fou nearly pulled off the biggest upset when he made it to the finals of his very first king in the ring tournament appearance. in between the sweat, blood, tears, and accolades, there was plenty of fun. i even toyed with the idea of doing a fight myself. the dream isn't dead yet, so maybe that will happen eventually. overall, i'd like to think that the little experiment - and jason's gamble on me - paid off.
today i taught my final bulletproof and fighter's mind classes. it's always difficult to say goodbye to family and friends, especially those that support you through the most difficult parts of life. i'll never forget the good deeds and open hearts of thip, jonathan, mamta, david, andre, and abhi just to name a few.
but a super special thank you to arna, jason, and the entire etk family. nothing but respect and love for all of you.
