using a light band as demonstrated is an incredible way to enhance kinesthetic awareness and teach you this valuable movement skill. ✅ benefits.
🔹mobility gains - improving motion across each spinal segment so that force is evenly distributed and you mitigate injury risk.
🔹if you have low back pain or a stiff low back - this is a firm favorite to help relieve / resolve the issue.
🔹 if you struggle to hip hinge - this will teach you pelvic control.
🔹if you sit all day and need to drive some much needed motion back into your spine #selfcare !
🔹if you lift weights and struggle to ‘feel’ the position of your spine. as you know, it’s very important you learn how to maintain a neutral spine, especially on exercises like squats and deadlifts. ✅ how it’s done.
➖loop a light band around your low back.
➖assume an all 4’s position.
➖try to stretch the band by rounding your low back and pressing into it.
➖now try to slacken the band / allow it to pull your spine down to the ground by arching.
➖transition between these two positions very slowly.

The 90/90 hip stretch is arguably the best b**g for the buck stretch for the hips.
.
let’s make sure you feel it in the right place, otherwise it’s worthless.
.
✅ how it’s done
🔹start by setting up in the 90/90 position as explained in the video.
🔹think ‘tall spine’ first.
🔹now, imagine trying to hover your belly button over your front shin while reaching the shoulders forward.
🔹these cues should help you to achieve a slight anterior tilt of your pelvis.
🔹to understand what that means, think of your pelvis as a bucket...you’re trying to spill water out the front of it.
🔹doing this will elicit a deep stretch of the glueal tissues and hip capsule.
🔹hold the stretch for 90 seconds - 2 minutes. this is the minimum time under tension for a stretch to be effective 👌

⚠️ do not fold the upper body by rounding the back. this does absolutely nothing for the hip. all were trying to do here is tilt the pelvis anteriorly.

It’s nice that my hips can still rotate after all that running! 😎 honestly, im pretty banged up. i wasn’t prepared to run 15.2 miles but i did it anyways because i made the commitment to my team. (15.2 miles is equal to the total amount of miles i’ve ran in the last 60+ days) injuries were inevitable. so now regaining functional strength and mobility is the ultimate goal. isometric and rotational inputs to all my joints daily will push my capacity back up to where it belongs, in the do anything realms of movement.

🏃‍♂️hamstring release🏋️‍♂️⁣

key pointers: ⁣

1️⃣ breathe 💨 - exhaling is essential to release tension in the body, slow down and emphasise your breathing to get an effective release⁣

2️⃣ slow down 🏎 - take your time to send the correct signals to your brain, enabling the muscles to relax. going too quickly with too much pressure will cause nervous system negatively react and tense up your muscles in a bid to protect them ⁣

3️⃣ use static pressure 🔑- if you find a particularly tender point, keep still and allow the ball sink into your tissues. this is a really effective way to release any tension ⁣

What is with this “tee ball” mentality everyone seems to have. listen up. not everyone gets a hit and not everyone is going to be successful. we are surrounded by people who believe they are special for just showing up. since when did going 0-13 (i.e. losing every game) get you a trophy. since when did simply showing up to work on time get you a pat on the back. it’s part of your f*****g job. that’s why i hate the term “like a boss”. it’s something i’ve heard thrown around a lot these days to describe the most ridiculous “accomplishments”. i went and worked out today, i’m a boss. i said no to a candy bar today, i’m a boss. i looked after the kids today, i’m a boss. i mowed the grass and went to the grocery store, i’m a boss. i took my kid to a basketball game, i’m a boss dad. awesome. you’re the best human in the world. you make it sound like your name is frodo and you took the ring to mount doom to save the fate of the entire free world. like a boss. gtfoh with that shit. let’s get one thing straight. doing your job, showing up on time, handling your business as a parent, or treating your spouse with respect doesn’t make you unique or special. it doesn’t make you a superhero. it simply means you showed up and did what any other good person would do. stop looking for validation for the most mundane of tasks. maybe that’s rare these days and we’ve sunk to such a low standard as people that we need a pat on the back or a high five for simply doing what we are supposed to but i’d prefer that we hold ourselves to a much higher standard. #everydamnday

Drank wayyyyyy too much beer this weekend - still have abs 🤜🏻🤛🏻 it’s all about balance and i never used to get that before 🤷🏻‍♀️ i would drink too much, have taco bell, then the next day more beer, then some pizza and then it would just turn in to this shame spiral of never ending bad choices but that’s because my mindset was all wrong! 🙄 i don’t beat myself up over my “mistakes” i see them as a treat 🍺 instead of eating ice cream or chocolate, i chose beer because i genuinely love the taste of an ice cold beer 👌🏻 so i like to earn my treats by working my a*s off all week and then enjoying my weekend 💃🏼 when you change your way of thinking, life gets a whole lot better 😇

Pails/rails for shoulder external rotation. .
.
don’t neglect shoulder mobility for pre-gab, rehab or in general. it is a must, especially among combat athletes, punching, throwing elbows, grappling, all are heavy tasks for your shoulders so if you’re a fighter or bjj player in any regard make sure you take care of your joints. obviously that goes for all weightlifters, gym goers and people in general. and that goes for all of your joints, their health is important, and down the line you’ll regret not taking care of them. .

2 minute passive stretch, face down, don’t look at the kettlebell, then pails ramping up full body tension as you push ⬇️ into the kb, ramping to 100% tension over 10 seconds then holding at 100% for another 10. .
.
rails, pull your hand away from the kb, even if it doesn’t leave you’re trying to get it off the kb without using your wrist. pull up ⬆️ for 10 seconds ramping full body tension to 100% then hold there for another 10 seconds . 5-10 good deep breaths and repeat 2-3 times, then work on rotational car’s at 80-100% tension 2-3x a week. .

after some focused work on opening more range of motion within shoulder internal rotation, we finished our session with some higher intensity capsular cars

i also have to say, watching her do her cars routine, she has made a vast improvement in her overall control of each joint #articularindependence. today when she admitted she hadn’t gotten all her homework in over the last week, but had at least consistently done her cars, she said “they just make me feel so good”
