in the picture on the left i was dealing with horrible gut health which lead to weight loss, nutrient deficiencies, lethargy, depression, poor immunity and of course missing out on school and life’s opportunities. -
little did i know that i was eating foods that my body could not break down which caused inflammation that lead to all of my symptoms. inflammation in the gut can lead to all sorts of complications, some of which do not even seem related to the digestive system! if you are someone who deals with things such as anxiety, depression, brain fog, migraines, hormone imbalances, anemia, arthritis, weak immune system, among so many other things the first place you should look at is your gut.

how can you go about doing so? begin to follow an elimination diet. eliminate those foods from your diet that commonly cause inflammation (gluten, dairy, soy) among foods that you notice don’t react well with your body. slowly begin to implement those foods one by one back into your diet and carefully pay attention to which foods work and do not work for you.

through my own elimination diets i have found that my body does not react well with dairy, gluten, soy, or processed sugars. while some foods i can tolerate in small amounts, others have been permanently eliminated from my diet. through this process i was able to heal myself from the inside out which has led me to the photo on the right :)

the deep squat is one of my favourite bodyweight exercises. such a simple exercise that does so much for your back, hips, knees, ankles, and all the muscles in your legs. i like to use it as a transition between movements, like frogger and monkey.

when it comes to form, i do have some pointers. but keep in mind—your ideal squat isn’t going to look like anybody else's ideal squat.

within the fitness industry, i see a lot of posts on the ‘gram and just in general where trainers / influencers just want to entertain you.
you may save something from instagram and go, “that looks like a great workout” and say “i’m gunna do that.” i know why you did it, because on paper it looks sexy. because it sounds fun.
now ask yourself this. what was the intention of that workout?
how was it designed and what were you supposed to get from that workout? is it within your reach?
what i’m really trying to say is what you want and what you need are to very different things.
what you want is a goal and something you wish to attain.
what you need is what’s going to get you to where you want.
think of your body and your goals as a set of stairs. you can’t just start at the bottom and get to the top. you’ve got to take one step at a time and progress at a pace that works for you!
