Friday night’s performance by the toronto symphony orchestra was a real unique experience.. “what makes it great - stravinsky the firebird” was conducted by the animated and illustrious, rob kapilow.. if you have never seen him conduct an orchestra before i highly recommend you go see him, such an experience!
russian composer igor stravinsky broke through to fame in 1910 when his glittering and dynamic ballet score “the firebird” premiered in paris. the plot was drawn from russian fairy tales, and stravinsky packed the music with orchestral colour and folk-flavoured melodies. in the first half, rob kapilow takes you inside this magic kingdom to show you its roots and explore stravinsky's methods in bringing it to life. he breaks down the piece into stages and explains the scores the counts, and the moments in the ballet it corresponds to.. so hard to put into words the magic but if you were there then you know!! after intermission, he conducts the tso in a full performance of the suite. powerful, suspenseful and romantic..#torontosymphonyorchestra🎻🎷🎺🎹🎶 #stravinsky#firebird#russianballet#gloriousevening#roythompsonhall
