If our choices cause the suffering & slaughter of innocent victims it is not acceptable. we are all responsible for the choices we make, so we need to ask ourselves- are our choices & our actions aligned with our morals, with our heart 💓 and with what we stand for???? please read dr ash’s re-post below & check out @vegan_neuropsychologist
she is very empowering, inspiring & insightful 💚
repost from @vegan_neuropsychologist - “i’ll respect your choice to be vegan, you should respect my choice to eat meat”. we know that “choice” isn’t really an acceptable if it takes away the rights of another. that’s why we can’t “choose” to randomly slap people in the face, because it’s not ok to violate their right to safety and body autonomy.
also consider that the “choice” to eat animals isn’t really a choice at all. it’s a cleverly programmed behaviour, instilled from childhood.
we have been brainwashed with the behavioural patterns of speciesism. from the moment our storybooks taught us that cows “give” milk and hens “give” eggs, to the animal parts that were surreptitiously fed to us, disguised in a form that was far removed from their origin.
everything in our environment pushed us to consume animals without a second thought. and when we did ask questions or show our disgust, our concerns were ignored, ridiculed, or minimized. participating in speciesism was rewarded; questioning it was punished.
the choice to eat animals isn’t a choice at all. it was a choice forced upon us by the generations before, because it was forced on them too (although perhaps through ignorance or scarcity). perhaps the real choice facing us today is whether we think for ourselves, or not.
do we listen to our hearts and conscience, or to social programming?
do we take brave steps forward in doing what’s right, or shrink in fear by sticking to what’s popular?
the “choice” to eat meat isn’t a choice at all. what is a choice, is to remain ignorant, disconnected, or emotionally illiterate.
