I’ll be running my 3rd half marathon on saturday! i’m so excited. here’s a #tbt to my first two half marathons.
the pic on the left is from my first half that i ran in october 2015 when my son was 11 months old. the runners world half in bethlehem pa is fantastic. i ran a 2:11 despite lots of hills and a sore hip.
the pic on the right is from the scranton half this past april. another post baby race when lana was just 7 months old. this was not a fantastic race for me, but i was proud of my finish despite not training consistently. i ran a 2:24 with positive splits haha. this race has a tough trail section at the end too.
i’d be lying if i said i had zero expectations for the philly half. ideally i would love to finish. πŸ˜‰ and if i could come in between my previous finish times, i would be thrilled. but if not, that will be ok too. this is my first big city race so i want to soak it all in and enjoy being part of it.
more than just the race, i cannot wait to hang out with @vanessacstella, indulge in some glorious brunch after and enjoy the city!
now i’m going to hunker down inside since it is snowing like crazy outside, order a pizza and cuddle up with my kiddos. β„οΈβ˜ƒοΈπŸ•

12 miles done! happy with my pace too! started with a jacket, took it off by mile 5. loved my mid run snack, honey stingers vanilla honey wafer, that s**t was bomb af!
since my week goes from friday to thursday because of working weekends, my mileage this week was 44 miles. epsom salt bath is a must today!

best 30 months ever!! its the hardest, most fun and fulfilling workout of my life! and the people..the best! i show up m-f ready to work and i don’t stop until i physically can’t run any harder or lift any heavier. that’s the only way you’ll see results! you have to continue to challenge yourselves and not to stay stagnant. and as always, wear your heart rate monitor!! i went about a year without wearing it and i was going a whole mph slower than i should have!! i always thought i couldn’t get into the orange zone but it was just because i was in fact not dying and i could push even harder!!
best decision of 2016, hands down πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Little by little a little becomes a lot.
transformation tuesday. there’s a bucket load of years, joy, tears, miles and babies (to name a few) between these two pictures. you don’t see the ups and downs between these two runners; my progress definitely wasn’t always linear but gosh dang it i made some serious progress here folks. ^
i remember my first half like it was yesterday. i ran the canyonlands half marathon in moab utah with a 3 year old and a fussy new baby on the sidelines. right after i crossed the finish, i rushed to go nurse my baby as fast as i could as i think my b*****s hurt way more than my legs ever did that race 🀣 #bamr . i went into my first half super open minded and ready to just have a blast without time expectations. i felt like an old vet because i had run 2 full marathons before i ran my first half marathon πŸ˜‚. in fact, i think i had only run two races post high school (a 5k and a 10 miler) before i toed the line to my first marathon at age 21. go big or go home right? this is clearly a theme in my life.... i don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing πŸ˜¬πŸ˜†.
most importantly, though, i want to address the mindset of that hot pink spandex wearing running momma. the moment i crossed that finish line and saw 1:37 i was happy and proud because i reached my goal that day but i also knew in that same moment i could brake 1:30. i have this very real way of literally seeing a goal before it happens. i got it stuck in my mind and there was no stopping me. i ran a 1:28 6 months later and half marathon # 2 went down with a big pr. i know i touch on this subject from time to time but faith and belief in ourselves is so dang powerful. it’s truly magic when we have faith, trust the process and then get to work. go out on a limb and believe that you can do something mighty that you dream of doing. if it doesn’t scare you then you probably aren’t dreaming big enough right? #dreamreallyfreakingbig #workhard #trainsmart

Off day today. i accidentally worked out twice yesterday πŸ˜‚ i thought i was going to a stretching pilates class last night but it ended up being 10% stretching and 90% pilates 🀷🏼‍♀️ it was good but not after lifting heavy that morning at otf 😬 so i spent my morning foam rolling and doing some runners yoga. foam rolling generally feels really good for me, except when i roll over my it band 😱😭 it will literally make your eyes tear up πŸ˜‚ .
i’ve received so many questions about building since we moved in july. i don’t want to plaster my house all over social media but the 2 most common questions i get are: do you really use your bathtub and is a home gym worth it. absolutely yes to both questions!! we use the tub 2 times a day. my husband in the morning and me at night. sometimes in the winter, we’ll use it even more, to warm up!! the home gym also gets used twice a day. me in the morning/afternoon and my husband at night! spend your money, where you spend the most time. for us, that was the kitchen, gym and tub. hope this helps!

Skipped the gym but couldn't resist getting out in the first snow of the year. i haven't been running very long and have little experience running in the snow. interesting that the danger was less ice and slipping, but the spongy snow that was like running on sand. hard to keep footing and good for and focus was essential. a good training exercise for the ankles! keep it super easy and just a ton of fun!

Next race πŸ‘‰ @philly_marathon half marathon in philadelphia, pa this saturday. i’ll be taking over the @floridatrackclub account this friday and saturday sharing everything from pre to post race.
one year ago, i ran my 2nd half marathon at tom walker memorial, hosted by florida track club, to my surprise finishing under my goal time of 1hr45min after encountering inflammation issues during training.
i’ve since joined florida track club and @team_ftc and despite encountering similar issues once again over the summer, this time around i took action to solve the issue through strength and mobility training thanks to coach enoch and @requestpt. .
you can (and should) prepare for anything during training, but no matter what you can’t exactly predict what comes race day. in philly, it may be freezing β˜ƒοΈand i don’t know how i’ll adapt as i rarely run in those temps here in fl.
nevertheless, i am bound to do what i can and most importantly have a great time in the presence of others who share a passion in this sport and for the cause or @aacr_foundation cancer research - it’s why i particularly chose philly of all places.
thanks to florida track club 🍊for making the travel to this race possible through a race scholarship. can’t wait to visit and run in this historic city for the first time!

You know those runs where you can't stop thinking about how badly your legs are aching and how out of breath you are? yep, that was today for me. 6 miles with 6 x 10 second hill sprints and it all felt very mediocre. 😩 i find that about half of my runs post rest day feel this way, and the other half i feel rested and ready to tackle my next run. not sure why this happens, but hey, not every workout will feel fantastic and that's okay. let's hope i was just saving up my energy for my 8 mile run tomorrow! 😜
