I usually spend the first chunk of my practice warming up my spine.
my back is not naturally very bendy and can get super stiff. i find it helpful to warm it up thoroughly and focus on strengthening postures before moving on in my practice. the spine is the central channel of the body and needs good nourishment, lubrication, and stability to be in good health.
these are some of my favorite warmups at the beginning of my practice: > cat/cow to upward facing dog flows
> standing backbends, being sure to focus on lifting heart and sternum up to prevent compressing the low back. these are both also nice for getting into the shoulders and hips. .
let me know what you think if you try them out or share your favorite back warm up... always looking for more spinal wisdom 🙏🏽
