"there's always something.
something that can overwhelm me and make me question whether or not i'm doing any of this correctly. the anxiety i felt when they were first born didn't exactly go away. it manifested and grew like a yeast starter. the only difference between now and then is that i'm better able to see that narrative for the lie that it is. being the best mom is a myth - but being a pretty great mom, most of the time, is actually possible. i don't believe in one best way to parent. in fact, i think it could be pretty damaging to our children if we tried to impose the ideals of someone elses onto how our family should function.
there's also not one way to be a family. you need to care, truly care that you are raising your babies to grow up to be good people. you need to do the work today to ensure that it happens. on some days you will knock it out of the ballpark, and on other days will scream the house down, wondering who replaced your children with the changelings who have horrible manners and no respect.
good news! tomorrow is a new day. tomorrow you'll count to ten before you lose your temper, and maybe they'll eat every bite of the dinner you made and say something so hilarious she'll think, man, people without kids are totally missing out! you will experience every kind of day as a mama, and you will need to accept the grab bag of good, bad, ugly, awesome, magical, and miserable days as a parent. you don't have to get it right all the time. you don't have to do things like anybody else's mom.
you only have to care." -@msrachelhollis
Pictures can be deceiving. it looks like i had my s**z together today, but nothing was planned until this morning. what i knew: i needed to use that over-ripe banana, and those leftover shrimp, plus that queso that girl child had to have but never ate, and the halved avocado waiting in the fridge. i also craved something pumpkin (that ice cream, tho!), something sweet, and i needed a quick dinner because tuesday. #glamorouslife#nailedit •
