“a hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder. fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won.
the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”

Since i started #the100dayproject my phone has become an extension of my hand again. i have such a love/hate relationship with insta. i love that through sharing my work here, i can connect with so many likeminded creatives and that we get to have meaningful ‘conversations’ that so many of us miss out on when we’re working in solitude each day. you guys uplift and inspire me every single day, i love popping in to this little virtual creative community. since i’ve been posting daily (sometimes multiple times a day), i’ve noticed a huge lift in my views, engagement and followers. but i’ve also noticed, if i’m not on my phone interacting and replying to comments straight after i’ve posted that the post dies a lot quicker and reaches a lot less of you. this insta-algorithm is a hungry beast, because it demands to be fed constantly and continually. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
it’s friday afternoon here, i’m not feeling 100% today, in fact i’m not even at a 50% and i just want to switch off, unplug, and ease into the weekend. i’ve spent the last couple of weekends painting, and posting. i don’t think i can spend another weekend under this (self-inflicted) pressure. if you read my last post, you’ll know that my 100 day project is about to be interrupted by a trek in peru. since that post i’ve been thinking about redefining the parameters of my project, so that it’s not so demanding on my time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
my 100 day project has evolved into so much more than i intended - it’s not the quick nature pages that i set out to paint. i’d really like to continue with the birds ‘exploding’ into bouquet theme i have going on, but in the interests of self preservation… at a slower pace. so i’m thinking as of today, my #100dayproject will no longer be happening on consecutive days. i need some space for my mind to wander again. i will fill this sketchbook with birds and bouquets, but it might take me until the end of the year! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
threw some limited color into the mix at the very end. don’t dabble with color nearly enough.
full disclosure: i absolutely love being able to make proportional and structural tweaks so easily in @procreate . definitely easier than when working analog.
