👨🏻🎨 autore: andrea pozzo (trento, 30 novembre 1642 – vienna, 31 agosto 1709), gesuita, architetto, pittore, decoratore e teorico dell'arte italiano. artista straordinariamente versatile, fu una figura significativa del tardo barocco.
opera: gloria di sant'ignazio
luogo: chiesa di sant'ignazio di loyola a campo marzio, roma
anno: 1685 👩🏻🎨

"for years it has been said that the fearful are ghosts of us. my research, however, led me to believe that this is not the case."
"i still remember. when i saw them, my heart shrank. but not of sorrow, but of impotence. i saw them floating, alien to my life, while a invisible weight was squeezing my chest, slowly and constantly, and even the air i was breathing was lacking in oxygen."
those were the words that heiwer, one of the last people who had stood in front of the fearful, had written in his logbook.
"what did they want? what did they need?"
"why did a being without purpose, without meaning, and without life, exist?".
"how could their be our ghosts?"
that log had been found among their belongings.
"it is impossible for me to describe the impotence i am experiencing at this moment. the kiss that their vision left on my skin that i cannot erase. the feeling that whatever i do, wherever i go, everything will be in vain."
"everything will be useless, now that i have seen it."
that logbook at times became illegible, as if heiwer shared it with someone who couldn't write. but, of course, that was impossible.
"i've seen myself."
heiwer had not left his room.
"i saw my face rise to the skies. i saw myself part of them, ripped from me. and i knew it was my destiny. i discovered that this is everyone's destiny. because the fearful are not our ghosts."
and when they found heiwer, he was still swinging from the rope around his neck.
"we are ghosts of what they were."
