the gommateshwara or bahubali statue is the tallest monolithic statue in the world , carved out of a single block of granite. it is 57-foot high monolithic and located on vindyagiri at shravanbelagola in the indian state of karnataka. it is so tall that it can be seen from 30 km away.
bahubali is the founder of jainism and was the first human to attain moksha. lord bahubali is worshiped for living with exceptional qualities that he displayed during all stages of his life from conception, birth, renunciation, enlightenment and salvation. this 57 feet tall statue is the most magnificent among all jain works of art and was built in circa 983.
