#succulents - we #love them!
pop some #plant joy in your restaurant or bar. but remember someone will need to water your b***s and they will benefit from a weekend outside every couple of weeks. these sweeties went off to @precinct_hotel ( except for the #cactus) i chose succulents that didn’t require too much light and i felt wouldn’t grow too fast.
#thelittleplantshop in #kew#melbourne#australia will be open this saturday 10-12.
happy wednesday sweet things.
I am lucky enough to work in a wonderful place where many of england’s 18-20th century materia medica have come to rest. the economic botany collection at kew, and has about 25,000ish medicinal examples. here is just one row of shelves with some highlights of items and their historic use:
🌱lettuce oil from luxor: a sedative.
🌳cherry tree resin: used for cough syrup.
🌳cinchona bark: quinine is an anti malarial. it’s in ‘parenthesis’ so may have been an alternative or an adulterant.
🐟the final weird, twisty cream yellow things are isinglass, or fish bladders. this may have been used for glue or as a nutritious post-convalescence food, but not entirely sure. (you’ll also spot a big sponge)
