Bang bang!! a great weekend for silver heel at a well hosted regatta in cambridge. with a bare bones crew, sh showed off the depth of our bench in placing experienced crew in new positions. in race 1, sh struggled to get in the groove and recover from a poor start, finishing 5th. however, after a few cups of coffee, silver heel got moving, claiming the gun in races 2 and 3. extending through the upwind legs, silver heel finished 2nd in saturday afternoon’s race as persistence just barely corrected over. on sunday, silver heel started well and led wire-to-wire, extending upwind and holding position downwind for another gun and the win. nicely done crew and thanks to cambridge yc who showed great hospitality towards the fleet after a 16 year absence of log canoe sailing on the choptank. we look forward to coming back!

Oxford was a tough one. silver heel’s crew work continued to be impressive, only undone by the fickle winds of the tred avon and some unlucky drifting (and yes, perhaps some questionable starts). sh went 5th and 6th on saturday (see aforementioned starts). sunday is unfortunately a tale of anguish as sh started in clear breeze and led the fleet around the windward mark by a healthy margin. as the boat neared the leeward mark, a shift pushed us off our heading, causing a wide rounding and allowing mystery, billie p and blossom to make up significant ground in the ever lightening breeze. as the wind lost it’s pulse, silver heel and blossom chose a middle course while billie p and mystery went to the shore. much to our chagrin and disappointment, the little breeze that whispered through favored the shore boats and relegated silver heel to 4th and 6th overall. redemption in cambridge?
