A blessed navarathri peeps!

as per mythology, the evil king mahishasura earned the favour of lord shiva who granted him a boon stating that no man or god would be able to k**l him but only woman. this boon made mahishasura very arrogant. he thought no woman anywhere could match his might.
so he started his reign of terror and conquered the mortal world as well as indraloka, the abode of the gods. to circumvent shiva’s boon and defeat the demon, the trinity of brahma, vishnu and shiva then combined their divine energies to create the brightly radiant, powerful and ultra beautiful devi shakti - this ultimate woman who alone could save the heavens and the mortal world.
when mahishasura heard of durga`s beauty, he wished to marry her and sent across a proposal. shakti (also called durga) replied that she would marry him provided he defeated her in battle. so he went into battle against her.

but mahishasura’s legions were effortlessly struck down by the goddess wrath on the battlefield. the story goes on how then mahishasura took the form of a wild buffalo, a lion and again a man and attacked durga without any success. in the end he reverted again to the buffalo form and hurled boulders at durga with his horns.
durga pounced on mahishasura, pushing him to the ground with her left leg. she grasped his head in one hand, pierced him with her sharp trident held in another, and with yet another of her ten hands she wielded her bright sword, beheading him. at last he fell dead, and thus she came to be called as mahishasuramardini (the slayer of the buffalo demon). the battle had gone on for nine days and nights and ended with the beheading of mahishasura on the tenth.  these nine nights are celebrated as navratri, while the tenth day is called vijaya dashami, or the victory on the tenth day (vijaya = victory; dashami = tenth)

4.7 astrologie balinaise ♊️
.
.
mantra.
aum dum durgaye namaha 💀

the #most #important #work by #india’s #finest #contemporary #artist, tyeb #mehta’s #mahishasura – a reinterpretation of the tale of the demon by the same name – was the first #indian #painting to cross the million dollar mark, selling for a whopping #$1.584 million at #christie’s in 2005. the #painting happened after #tyeb’s visit to #shantiniketan where he was inspired by the legend of #mahishasura. #mehta fuses ancient imagery with simplicity of form, #colour and line, resulting in a #powerfully #modern #work full of #fresh #vitality.#classic #art #work #follow #for #more #amazing #paintings
