These are two books i got at the sale!
the sisters is a biography on the mitford sisters! this book came to me right on time, because i've just become quite interested in them! maybe you want to keep an eye out for this book @pagesandplays , it has lots of photos inside too.
i also picked up the awakening by kate chopin. i had never heard of this book before bookstagram, and now i see it on here quite often.
have a great start to the week friends!
For weekend @globestyle, i consider a few new biographies of places and how they reflect the lives of famous residents—on screen in real life and in the popular imagination. coco chanel’s la pausa villa, starring the plaza, the lavish decor for jetset guests at maxine elliott’s château de l’horizon in the riviera set, and the unfinished palazzo, about the holy trinity of flamboyant eccentricity who occupied the palazzo dei leoni in venice: luisa, marchesa casati, doris castlerosse, and peggy guggenheim [column at link in bio]
What i'm reading now: the sisters by mary s. lovell. it's the story of varying personalities and political ideas in the famous mitford family, particularly the socialite sisters that the gossip columns were so obsessed with, they were a household name for a while. in fact, unity mitford was mentioned in my last book, breakfast at tiffany's! they were a family both connected to winston churchill and h****r during the time of the second world war! #marylovell#thesisters#mitfordsisters
A book about the six, eccentric mitford sisters was always going to be fascinating. they couldn't have been more different and mary lovell perfectly captures their contrasting personalities and interests.
each sister was a headlines grabber, ranging from a best selling novelist, wife to oswald mosley (leader of the most popular british fascist movement), one was a close pal of h****r and one became the duchess of devonshire. altho my fave sister was jessica who ran away to fight fascism in the spanish civil war and later became best friends with maya angelou.
shamelessly sympathetic to the sisters, i would absolutely recommend 'the mitford girls' as a fascinating insight into one of britain's most infamous socialite families. #bookstagram#book#paperback#mitford#mitfordsisters#jessicamitford#themitfordgirls#marylovell#history#socialite#herbaltea#pukkatea#fenneltea
