we've all been there, we're in the middle of a conversation with someone who we really care about who is clearly struggling and needs support but we have no idea what to say and end up saying some really basic or invalidating thing like "it'll be fine" or "so and so had it worse".
it's never out of malice or intention to shut the person down but that can sometimes be the effect.
we leave the conversation hoping the person feels better and wondering if we said the right thing, because "how do you respond in these situations"?
but i guess the answer is simple when we really think about" what would we need to hear if we were them?"
i think these examples of what to say when someone you love is struggling from @heyamberrae are absolutely spot
key things to say to yourself when you're struggling (instead of what's wrong with you, why are you like this, you're over reacting, why can't you just get your isht together)
-how does this make you feel?
-how is this impacting you?
-your feelings are totally valid.
-what do you need right now?
the first person you need validation from when you're struggling is yourself. any self-criticism at this point will take you right back to square 1. been there done that, doesn't work.
2020 has thrown enough mud at us we do not need to be scooping it back up to throw at ourselves.
🗣❤️ if you struggle with self love, finding your self compassionate voice, never manage to cheerlead for yourself (but are real acquainted with that critical bully in your mind) then check out the self love toolkit. it's the answer to everything you need in order to turbo charge that self love. link in bio

Some of my friends say they would get help if they had more free options or even low cost. a stay in a mental health hospital can cost tens of thousands of dollars. most countries might not even have these options. people are dying every day. we have to work hard to change this narrative. we have to do better. we have to make this change world wide.
@manicpixiememequeen nails it on the head here. today i feel like everyone hates me and everyone is mad at me. i know it’s not true but my mind works in mysterious ways. tag someone you love and let them know ❤️❤️❤️.
Type ‘yes’ if you have been on the receiving end of this type of advice. for everyone who has been subject to people invalidating them i want to tell you your fkn awesome courageous strong and you got this ❤️
"for me, it’s been a fight between anxiety and myself since the 7th grade. that is when everything kind of fell apart. all the people i knew who were my friends turned on me, backstabbing me throughout my school life. this made me develop the fear of losing people because so many people just left me one after the other. that haunts me even now, i always have a s****d thought running through my mind, that i might wake up one day and see the person is gone and is out of my life. and i feel like it’s going to be for something that's not even my fault, and because i have lived in anxiety for so long, it always wins the argument in my head. i keep thinking and overthinking things, sometimes feeling like i cannot breathe. i don’t know what this is, anxiety or just overthinking but i have fought it long enough. i am working towards understanding how to process my thoughts and creating a more positive environment for myself."

Depression occurs more often in women than men. some differences in the manner in which the depressed mood manifests has been found based on s*x and age. in men it manifests often as tiredness, irritability and anger. they may show more reckless behavior and abuse drugs and alcohol. they also tend to not recognize that they are depressed and fail to seek help. in women depression tends to manifest as sadness, worthlessness, and guilt. in younger children depression is more likely to manifest as school refusal, anxiety when separated from parents, and worry about parents dying. depressed teenagers tend to be irritable, sulky, and get into trouble in school. they also frequently have co-morbid anxiety, eating disorders, or substance abuse. in older adults depression may manifest more subtly as they tend to be less likely to admit to feelings of sadness or grief and medical illnesses which are more common in this population also contributes or causes the depression.

Hey! it's okay if you are feeling down today, you don't need validation for your pain to be real. your pain and emotions don't need people's approval for you to feel it. you don't need to prove that it's real or fake. just feel it, let it consume you, let it pass through you. you gotta feel through it to heal through it.
it happens with all of us, some days turn out to be really stressful but that doesn't mean it will last forever.
it shall pass too. good days are waiting for you!❤✨

Keep raising vibrations...failure is the other polar to success...💥🎯
my greatest lessons came from seeking knowledge outside of the home.. if you are from any type of low income environment... survivor of the lifestyle of prostitution or human trafficking, embrace the blessings , however, seek knowledge outside those perimeters. please believe me

Create a good week! in a world where vows are worthless. where making a pledge means nothing. where promises are made to be broken, it would be nice to see words come back into power. i make myself a few, one i’ll share is to continue to be authentic to not only me, but to you!
what’s yours this today, this week or the remainder of the year?
🌼 signs of depression 🌼
when you’re sad, it may feel all-encompassing at times. but you should also have moments when you are able to laugh or be comforted.
🌼depression differs from sadness. the feelings you have will affect all aspects of your life. it may be hard or even impossible to find enjoyment in anything, including activities and people you used to enjoy.
I've been a bit abundant on ig but, i want to make a return recording my fitness and mental health journey since it's all gone to p*t lol 😁
don't we love the power of high waist leggings 😂 these were taken with minutes between 😉
now, i feel like it'd be too harsh on myself to say i'm ashamed of myself but, i am disappointed that i've allowed myself to put on approx. 11 pounds 🙃
i must also say i'm not by any means saying that the right pic is any less beautiful than the left 💞 but, i personally like a smaller waist and hips, and working out helps massively with mental health... mental health being the key thing here for me 🗝️ #fit#fitness#fitspo#motivated#inspire#selflove#selfcare#selfdevelopment#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawarenessmonth#bekind

‘if these walls could talk” series during the beginning of the covid-19 crisis, i spent countless hours driving around my neighborhood and looking for materials i could transform into art. it was a constant process of collecting, experimenting, and exploring. this installation is comprised of gardening crates and trays i pulled out of a dumpster down the road from my home. it begs the question ‘what constitutes as trash?’ why is one thing considered worthless while another individual considers it valuable. we live in a throwaway society, and we treat one another in the same context. when someone is suffering, especially from issues related to mental health, we instantly consider them weak and unworthy. we cast one another aside and are unwilling to see the potential in those we consider broken. it’s time we break the system and obliterate the stigmas, because mental health is more important now than ever. 💚 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
