Road trip day six: co, ut!
• • •
day 6 was our longest day and night yet. as my husband said that night, "mission successful. what a day. dinos and milky way." the short story: pats game, dinosaur tracks, fossils, heat, nature, wow. the long story: we left grand junction, co and had a short trip to moab, ut. the road wound along the colorado river and through red rock formations. as soon as we arrived in moab, we found a campsite. it was noon, so by this time most of the campsites were full. luckily, we snagged the first spot in a group site. after the tent was up, we drove into town and found a sports bar to watch the pats game. after the game, we drove out to the dinosaur track site and fossil trail! we had the site and the trail to ourselves! it was really neat to learn about the tracks and fossils, and see them in real life. it was wicked hot out - so we were sweating, covered in fine red dirt, and dehydrating quickly. the desert is no joke kids! at this point, it was tempting to get a hotel room to cool down and rinse off, but we resisted. instead, our next stop was to the froyo place in town, @moyo! luckily they had a dairy-free option for me🍦😍, but even if they didn't i was thankful for the shade and misters. misting! 💦 what a beautiful invention! 🙏 after hiding from the sun for a while, we finally ventured out. we drove up to our second national park - arches np! we spent the evening chasing the sunset and then the milky way. we lucked out with our timing. there were no clouds and almost a new moon, making the milky way even more prominent across the sky. the amount of stars in the sky was incredible. what an amazing experience that we will never forget. chris played with our cameras and captured some really magical photos. i cooked up some backpacking meals, and just in time too. as exhaustion began to set in, we scarfed down our food and headed back to the campsite. as hot as it was that day, it cooled down a bit at night, and i'm glad we didn't get a hotel room. sleeping in our tent always feels like home. we set up our sleeping pads and fell asleep snuggled up to a canyon wall. life's pretty crazy huh?
