So we've been in bend, or for the last couple days and really like it so far. it doesn't hurt that there is a crystal blue lake inside of a crater that used to be a volcano just a couple hours outside of the city! today, we decided to go check it out!

Rolling into crater lake early in the morning i was not quite sure if we were even going to be able to witness the beauty of the lake since it was covered all in fog. as we drove around the rim the sun came out and we eventually got to see the lake ๐Ÿ˜ •

that island is called phantom ship and got its name because on foggy days it resembles a ghost ship. •

three interesting facts i found out about crater lake

1. it is the deepest known lake in the united states
2. it took around 720 years to fill up
3. there are no streams flowing in or out •

The spot where mount mazama once towered 12,000 feet over its surroundings nearly 8,000 years ago, before erupting so much that it destroyed itself, exloding, crumbling in, and eventually filling with water to become crater lake. After leaving lava beds national monument behind, we drove from northwest california to south-central #oregon to our next destination--#craterlakenationalpark .
crater lake is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity, and is the deepest lake in the united states, and the seventh deepest in the world (with a depth of 1,949 feet). the lake was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano #mountmazama , and the nearly 2,148-foot-deep #caldera has been filled by rain and snowfall over the centuries with no rivers flowing into or out of the lake. we arrived in the late afternoon and the first sight of #craterlake took my breath away๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜! i wonder if there is a word to describe the blue hue deeper or bluer than the color blue but not yet indigo?๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ”ท๐Ÿ”ต ๐Ÿค”
