Meet mr lentil bean!
he is with a rescue group in the sf bay area of ca and is available to any approved adopter who is willing to come to us in person to adopt.
lentil is a 12 year old, 2.5 lb chihuahua neutered male who joins us from our friends at el dorado county animal services south lake tahoe shelter where he was found as a stray (pretty scary for a dog this small to be a stray in that area). lentil is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, free of parasites and has had senior labwork and a dental cleaning.
he does take a thyroid pill that runs about $5/month and we will send him to a new home with a year's supply.
he is also currently on a medically prescribed (but otc) calcium supplement that he may also need on an ongoing basis but the container we bought him on amazon will last him two years. he takes melatonin as well (also otc). we will know more about his medications after he has repeat labs in a few weeks and has that much time of good nutrition in his belly and the medications to take effect.
lentil's foster mom had this to say about him: "he’s a tiny little boy, weighing just under 3 lbs. when he first got here he didn’t seem to like being held. he is now letting me hold him for a few minutes without squirming or whining.
he doesn’t mind the other dogs. he has slept about 6 hours at night (he’s currently in the play pen). he barks at his food before he eats. he sleeps bundled up under a blanket. he still mostly wanders and then whines when he’s hungry, tired or needs to go outside"
he seems housebroken, crate trained and rides fine in the car. he is really tiny and he isn't the right dog if you have small children. we have lots of dogs who are -- this one is not the right one for small kids. trust us. they would both be miserable. (no, he does not bite. he is just boring). if you are interested in adopting lentil, please email us at email@example.com
