healthy fats: avocado and evoo, 🥑 again high in fiber and good for your heart fats.
meals like this are the premise of #timednutrition .. this meal roughly comes in to 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein and i feel amazing eating this way. 😍
yes we’re all different but if the way you’re currently eating isn’t getting you to your goals, maybe it’s time to try something new!

My favourite accompaniment to just about anything but especially good in bbq season or with meaty fish. chop x2 small red onions finely + 2 med/large tomatoes finely chopped (best deseeded but let’s face it who has time to do this?!) + a bunch of chopped coriander and a finely chopped red chilli (optional!). mix with a glug of olive oil and some salt and pepper . yum 😋 oh and it gets better so make extra and enjoy the next day. #foodblogger #nutrition #salsa #yummy #healthy #nutrition #dietitian #nutritionexpert #lowfat #fresh #delicious #chilli #bbq #food #eatwell #feelgood

Yet another study has linked eating breakfast to healthy weight management.
.
🧐mayo clinic researchers analyzed the breakfast habits of 350 adults and found that over a year:
✔️regular breakfast eaters gained an average of ~3 pounds
✔️occasional breakfast eaters put on about 5 pounds
✔️breakfast skippers gained about 8 pounds
the study also found that eating breakfast reduced the risk of gaining belly fat.
.
🍴i’m a big believer in breakfast, but i have a few breakfast rules of thumb:
1) focus on quality. breakfast is an opportunity to fit in nutrient-rich whole foods. don’t waste breakfast on processed foods.
2) break it up. you don't have to eat all of your breakfast in one sitting. it’s ok to graze throughout the morning. or, split your breakfast by having healthy carbs before a workout, and then veggies, lean protein, and healthy f*t after.
3) think outside the box. breakfast doesn’t have to consist of traditional breakfast food. some of my clients like to make a double portion at dinner, and save half to warm up or eat cold the next morning. others prefer something savory, like a breakfast salad.
.
here are a few breakfast meals i recommend to my high performance clients:
.
🍳full on: a big handful of greens and other colorful veggies, scrambled with a few organic, pasture raised eggs (or mashed white beans for a vegan option), herbs, turmeric and black pepper, avocado, and a side of fresh berries.
.
🍓quick: smoothie made with fresh greens and other veggies, fresh or frozen fruit, plant-based protein powder, avocado or nut butter, and fresh ginger root.
.
🥒grazer: one cup of raw veggies with guacamole for dipping, two hard boiled eggs or a handful of oven roasted chickpeas, piece of fresh fruit.
.
🥄 grab and go: overnight oats made with shredded zucchini and/or finely chopped kale, plant-based protein powder, almond milk, almonds, oats, cinnamon, and pure maple syrup.
.

🍎i grew up in upstate ny. apples remind me of my childhood because i loved visiting local apple orchards as a kid.

😻 i’m a crazy cat lady and i have an amazing kitty named bean! you can see her in the ‘bean’ insta-story pinned in my profile.

🎃 halloween is my very favorite holiday and fall is my favorite season. 🍁

🕺right now dance, hiking, walking, and roller skating are my favorite ways to move. i’m also trying to learn how to surf (i own a board and wetsuit, but i don’t practice often enough!). 🏄

👩‍🎓 my nutrition science degrees (undergrad and grad) are from syracuse university. i once had a kitty, otto (rip), named after su’s mascot.🍊i also have a master’s degree in public health.

☁️ i try to meditate daily, and i’ve been doing so for several years.

🗽🌴 i live and work in both nyc and la, and i love both cities soooo much! ❤️❤️

😋 my favorite food is black beans, but i’m pretty obsessed with avocado. 🥑

☀️ my perfect day would either be in nature (like touring an organic farm and eating a farm to table meal, or hiking in a beautiful spot and stopping for a picnic lunch), or exploring art, street art, food, and culture in a city i’ve never been to. bonus if the day involves being with animals (but never, ever a zoo). 🐐 🐴 🐷 🐬 🦌🐋🐇

🎸 i took a bunch of lessons at the nyc guitar school, but i still can’t play.☺️

✈️i have visited 14 countries and 37 u.s. states, but i hope to see many, many more. i actually met my hubby of 20 years while on vacation in another country!💕

⚡️i love david bowie - his music has helped me through some difficult times. bean’s bff ziggy (ziggy stardust) passed away last year. they had their own ig account @ziggyandbean. i try to keep it updated with posts of bean. if you’re a bowie fan too, check out the story i pinned featuring photos of him at the broadway lafayette subway station in nyc.
